Front of House/Receptionist – Part Time
📍Based Leeds city centre
🕛 Hours – Three or four full days per week (8.30am – 5.15pm)

We are now recruiting for a part time, front of house position at 46 The Calls; the ideal candidate will be friendly, welcoming, with a background in dealing with people/customers. Office experience is not necessarily needed.
Flexibility to cover holidays and sickness would be preferred.

Duties to include:
▪ Friendly first point of contact for tenants and visitors to the building
▪ Answering telephone calls
▪ Facilities administration
▪ Being responsible for the general smooth running of reception & the building

Based on The Calls, this is an excellent city centre location. If you’re a people person who enjoys providing great customer service, then we’d like to hear from you.

Throwback Thursday – The Small Mill!💥

The Small Mill boasts a rich history dating back to the 19th century. The site was a part of The Tetley brewing complex, which produced a remarkable 171,000 barrels of beer annually by 1975. Tetley then ceased production in 2011, marking the end of a 150-year era of Tetley malting in Leeds.🍻

In the late 1990’s we gave this neglected property new purpose. The metal grain silos were converted into unique office spaces, with the 19th-century brewery malthouse redesigned into bespoke headquarters for the Leeds office of Ove Arup engineers.

This redevelopment was awarded the "Excellence in Places and Spaces" at The Leeds Architecture Awards 2003 and "Highly Commended" at the RIBA White Rose Awards for Excellence in Architecture 2003.👏

After Arup’s move to larger premises in 2013 the development housed the growing search agencies Epiphany and Jaywing.

In 2017, a three-story extension was added, designed by Garnett Netherwood Architects to complement the original structure and bring a modern touch to this iconic site. The involvement of MAC Construction and Shepherd Gilmour played a pivotal role in bringing the redevelopment together and was built Dobson Construction Ltd.👏

The Small Mill is now the headquarters of online retailer DUSK.com and stands as one of the few retained examples of industrial heritage character in the rapidly regenerating South Bank area of Leeds. ✨

At YDG, we’re proud of our role in protecting and re-purposing this fantastic building.✨🙌

Built in 1868, the building was originally occupied by Whitbread and Co. Ltd Brewers and Bottlers.

Fast forward to 1989, when a new chapter began for the building. A thoughtful refurbishment was carried out to honour the history, embracing the building's unique character features and structural elements.🔨

The result? The transformation gave the building a new lease of life creating six unique workspaces that have been in high demand ever since.

Every day, VTR NORTHth, Enjoy Design, marketing and Soar With Us continue the creative legacy. The 155-year-old walls would nod in approval!🌟

The redevelopment didn’t go unnoticed, winning Commendation for Altered Building (The Leeds Award for Architecture, 1990).🏆

Today we thought we would share some of our favourite and iconic buildings of - The Calls, The Corn Exchange, Kirkgate Market, Leeds Docks and Leeds Parish Church! 🙌

Where’s your favourite spot in the city? 👀

We're throwing it back to where it all began: Yorkshire Design Group's first big project - 46 The Calls! 🙌

YDG redeveloped the historic building in 1988 into 35,000 square feet of stunning creative office spaces. Originally a grain warehouse owned by national grain traders Spillers Limited.

Then in the late 70’s it was then bought from Spillers to Suma Wholefoods, a health food cooperative, who are still going strong today. This was used as Sumas headquarters and warehousing. The original Canadian Maple flooring still shows the occasional mark left by Suma’s forklift trucks, which we retained deliberately to reference the previous use of the building.

This project set the stage for further development in The Calls, which attracted new uses and transformed the area into a thriving destination for work, living and leisure.
Over the years we have been the home to many amazing tenants, some have even been with us for over 34 years like Garnett Netherwood Architects!

Looking back, we're proud of our early projects and we're grateful for the opportunity to create spaces that inspire and excite.🙌

We can't wait to see what the future holds for YDG! ✨

The trail brings Michael Rosen’s iconic 'We’re Going on a Bear Hunt' story to life, 35 bears are hidden across the city until the 9th September 2023.

Throwback Thursday! 🔙

This week we are focusing on 31 The Calls 🏢

With varied uses in its lifetime (including a restaurant, potato warehouse and Sheetmetal works!), 31 The Calls is now home to open-plan offices on three floors.

The redevelopment of the building by YDG retained the quality and character of the architecture whilst introducing a third level at the original roof height. The conversion of industrial warehousing to creative office space of this building won the City of Leeds Award for Architecture for the building alterations in 1999.

It’s incredible to see the transformation of the building and the different uses it has had over the years. 👏
