C is for... Couching This stitch allows you to hold down surface embellishments. You can use it with yarn, ribbon, metallic threads, fabric... you name it, this stitch can do it. It also means you can include in your work thicker threads that won't easily pass through your fabric. Just lay your surface thread along whatever line you want to create and make little stitches over it to hold it I place. Work them close together or space them out. You can create all sorts of different effects depending on what thread you couch with and how you space the Couching stitches. It can also be played around with. Try working the stitches on a diagonal, using cross stitches, blanket stitches or even bullion knots. C is for... Chevron Stitch Worked on 2 parallel lines left to right. 1. Start on the bottom line. Whole Stitch right. 2. Half Stitch left. 3. Go to the top line. Half stitch left. 4. Whole stitch right. Bring needle up half stitch left. 5. Go to the bottom line and repeat steps 3 & 4. A really easy decorative stitch. Work stitches closerr together or further apart to create different effects. C is for... Cast On Stitch A great stitch to add dimension to your embroidery. Use for flower petals, decorative edging, creating frills or rippled sections. It takes some practice but once you've got the hang of it, it's easy to create lovely effects. C is for... Colonial Knot Struggle with French knots? This Knot gives more consistent results and looks rounder and neater! It's easy... 1. Bring your needle up 2. Pull the working thread towards you 3. Scoop up the working thread from left to right 4. Take the working thread over the needle to create a figure 8 around the neddle 5. Push the needle point back through the fabric, close to where the thread came out 6. Pull on the working thread to tighten it around the needle and keep the thread taut 7. Pull the thread all the way through Done!
