Easy little podcast today.
Wasn’t meant to be a podcast, but sometimes people just keep talking!
I wish I’d have had my camera and tripod with me while the waves were crashing in New Brighton yesterday.
I’d have sat and waited for ‘the decisive moment’ when someone walked by and got soaked!
But I didn’t… so this was one of the more dramatic images I got with my iPhone.
Amazing customer service from sending this replacement handle out to me.
They didn’t f**k about, they asked me a few questions, sent me replacements screws to try, and when they didn’t work, they sent me a new handle.
Simples.
Shooting on white again this week with .
We needed to be closer to the back ground so used 6 x 4ft LED daylight batons cable tied to light stands and tension poles with a small LED spot In the middle. A set up *ttyrigs would be proud of!
Single Godox 200w Key light with a 80cm soft box and a reflector for some fill.
We’ll see how this turns out in the edit.

Behind the scenes of a shoot we did for this week.
Expect to see the shots when they launch in a few weeks.

Some recent work we did for Windcat Workboats.
We spent two days shooting stills and video for them, the videos are still in the editing stage.
Was great to get back on a vessel and out to sea, even if it was only for a few hours.
A shot from the live podcast we did last week.
It felt more complicated than it looks.
So last night we produced our first live stream podcast.
I’d be lying if I said it went perfectly, but it went well enough and lots of things were Learnt.
Top tip, always keep an eye on the comments coming through! That’s where you’ll get the priceless info like ‘there is no audio!’ 😂
A bit of salt water is good for your rig 😬
Some shots from the wedding of & at the weekend.
A super chilled afternoon with amazing clients.
All snot handheld on R5c & R5 mostly at 60th second to get some natural movement in the images. All without flash and pushing the ISO to its limits for some of the shots.
The next step for 2020…
Do you even Podcast, Bro?
London at 0.5 seconds.
Nighttime shooting with the .lighting Amaran 60x and CS-65D lantern.
The light was powdered by a d-tap battery which is amazing.
Not an ideal size lantern for the shack, but an amazing light for filming.
Todays hard lesson with macro photography was in two parts;
•1. Make sure you have the right lens.
•2. Double Check your settings.
The 25mm was too close to get all of this bestie in, so should have used the 100mm.
More importantly, I’d put it at f/2.8 instead of f/8, so the depth of field was crazy shallow.
The only positive I’m taking from this shot is the insane detail on the eye.
Google images tells me this is a Robber Fly, but as usual I have no idea.
The Asilidae are the robber fly family, also called assassin flies. They are powerfully built, bristly flies with a short, stout proboscis enclosing the sharp, sucking hypopharynx.
Im pretty sure this is the same little guy as in the last image, as I found him on the same window the morning after.
I got about 3 usable shots out of 30, before he was bouncing all over the place and landed on the lens, so I put him back where I’d found him.
So much respect for the macro shooters who handheld focus stack these little guys.
I have named him Sid, might see if I can get a few more shots of him if he hangs about the same window over the next few days.
According to Google image search this is ‘Pseudicius’ which is a type of jumping spider.
No clue if that’s correct and definitely not the photo id have liked to have taken. But it’s what I got as it moved quickly across the kitchen window.
First play with the 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro lens.
Saw this little beastie on my daughters window.
No idea what it is, but it didn’t want to stay still.
Snapped about 10 frames before he was gone. This was the best of a bad bunch, but Im loving the potential of the lens.
It’s insane how shallow the depth of field is at f/8!!
Not much skill in taking this photo…😂
Find a dead bee.
Bring it home Carefully.
Photograph it.
Crop in!
Not sure I’ll be billing clients for macro shots anytime soon, but It’s all practice.
If you’re any good at macro photography, you’ll be able to see everything wrong with this image…
If you’re pretty new to it like me, you think it looks freaking awesome anyway!!
Absolutely loving the R5 and RF 100 macro. This combo is letting me get away with huge crops while I’m learning the art of macro photography.
Macro photography is bloody difficult, and this guy wasn’t even moving, he was quite happy chilling in his web!
According to a Google image search, he is a Noble false widow?
This was a shot I took 12 years ago, I still think it looks pretty good.
It is an 18” Kill Bill figure.
Shot on 5x4” Velvia film on black Perspex and lit with a light (I can’t remember which one) An opaque sheet behind with a broncolor sunlight shining through.
I’ve had the RF 100mm Macro lens a while now and haven’t actually used the macro feature!
Big thanks to who helped keep the subject still for this test shot 😮
Shot with the R5c, 430 ex II Speedlite and a cheap pop out deflector.
The shot is heavily cropped because the fly was pretty small, but with 1.4x magnification and a 45mp sensor, I think I can get away with the crop.
Macro spam incoming…

No C70’s we’re harmed in the filming of this BBQ.
Flipped the C70 in to portrait for some social media shots today.
Used the RF 35mm f/1.8 to nail that Close focus.
Added the Cage to the C70.
I like it, fits well and the handle feels great.
Pity the remote trigger doesn’t work though.
C70 with RF f/2.8 70-200mm and .global Ninja V.
Single .lighting 120d II with soft box.
Two RGB LEDs for the background.
Nice simple set up.
Spent some time with my old mate at shooting a video for last week.
Check it out over on their channel.
Image shot with R5 and RF f/2.8 100mm Macro.
Nice little handheld setup for today.
C70 with Atomos Ninja V powered by D-Tap battery.
I was getting fed up of f # about with different batteries and chargers after a shoot, so decided to try and bring it all in to one place.
I used a cheap copy of a Peli 1510 that I had, lined it inside the base and lid with one side of some heavy duty tape and stuck the other side to all my chargers! Also picked up a R150 for when I’m away from mains power.
Pretty pleased with how it has turned out.
I’m sure it’ll get rearranged after a few shoots.
The worst part about editing food videos is how hungry they make you 😂
One of ’s amazing Korean Bagel Burgers from the recent shoot for .
