Did you know bone is a living tissue that's constantly being built up and broken down. We reach peak bone mass in our 20's. When oestrogen levels drop during perimenopause, we lose more tissue than we build. In fact about 5% of a woman bone mass is lost in the first 5 years after menopause leaving you more susceptible to breaks and fractures down the line (osteoporosis). A DEXA scan measures bone density. It's notoriously difficult to get on the NHS so I got a referral from Dr. Shahzadi Harper from The Harper Clinic and paid to go privately. The scan cost £65. The video shows me pre appointment. I asked my Instagram followers to post any questions they had and tomorrow will be posting my findings/answers - why checking our bone density is so important and some preventative nutritional advice.
