Lovely example of how thoroughly we can clean your teeth using the GBT protocol

GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy) is a step by step process to remove plaque (biofilm), stains and calculus (the hard stuff) using EMS Airflow and very little, if any, scraping

Some disclosing solution is painted onto the teeth and it highlights plaque deposits so that you can see exactly where you’ve missed with your brush, and where you need to work on

Airflow is then used to blast it all off gently using a mixture of air, antibacterial powder and water. This bit feels just like a shower for the teeth! 🚿

Any hard stuff left is removed with the ultrasonic scaler, and you can go from the top picture to the bottom picture in 10-15 minutes

I can do GBT at both or

We were having a clear out at WeLoveTeeth and didn’t have room for these 7 dummies any more.

Rather than throw them we wondered if anyone could make use of them, so we have donated them to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) at St Peter’s hospital, Chertsey ☺️

Hopefully they will help to bring the tiny beans some comfort whilst they’re being looked after ❤️

We’ve known for quite a while now about the link between your oral health and your general health.

I educate all of my patients about the importance of keeping your teeth and gums healthy not only to avoid dental disease like decay and gum disease, but also to lower your risk of other diseases such as Parkinson’s, dementia, heart disease, and lung disease to name just a few.

This new evidence is yet another reason to keep your mouth as healthy as possible.

Stay safe ✌🏻

Consultation on the proposal for the supply and administration of medicines under exemptions within the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 by dental hygienists and dental therapists across the United Kingdom - NHS England - Citizen Space 15/10/2020

Please please could as many people as possible complete this survey.

Dental hygienists and therapists are lobbying the government to allow us to prescribe certain medications that we need regularly during our working day. Being able to prescribe these medications will also open up access to traditionally difficult to access groups of people.

You can complete as a dental/medical professional or as a lay person, everyone’s opinions are needed.

Please complete and share 🙏🏻

I’m not sure if any of you saw the BBC Spotlight program the other day about private dentistry and PPE (it’s only in on certain regions I think).

It was, quite frankly, an awful piece of biased ‘reporting’ about private dental practices charging for the extra PPE we now have to wear.

A complaint has been made to OFCOM by the BAPD (British Association of Private Dentistry) which I’ve posted below, and which addresses the points made in the piece in an attempt to correct the inaccuracies.

If you did see it, please be aware that the points they raise in it are completely false, and please don’t give your dentist an earful when you go for your next appointment 🙏🏻

Subject:

Private Dentists and PPE Charges

Description of original complaint:

The report by Kevin Day involved an interview with a "Volunteer PPE Delivery Driver", JH, who claims to have been delivering PPE "for years" and may therefore perhaps appear to be an authority. During the interview, Mrs. H suggested that Dentists "have been using the same PPE for years and this is the same PPE which they say they have to charge for". As a practicing dentist, I can assert with authority that this statement is factually incorrect, indeed the levels of PPE required post-COVID are significantly in excess of that required prior: including but not limited to additional respirator masks, visors, and full-length gowns; none of which were used before and have been purchased by dentists at considerable additional expense. She then went on to suggest that charging for the PPE was "a bit annoying"; the reporter Mr. Hay then went on to ask "are you a bit suspicious? , clearly, a leading question designed to suggest that the dentist in question was unfairly profiteering. The reporter then went on to interview another patient, CW who suggested it was a "scam". The final statement was that "NHS dentists are not charging": this is factually correct; however, the reporter failed to explain that NHS dentists cannot legally charge for the additional costs of their additional PPE since their fees are fixed and set by the NHS: this is key to the article. I would suggest that this report was poorly researched, factually incorrect, and asked leading questions of the interviewees. The net result was inflammatory towards the dental profession; dentists in private practice particularly being affected. In addition, the high degree of trust between patients and dentists has been damaged resulting in a risk to oral health: furthermore, this article may be financially damaging to private dentists as a result of patients questioning the need to pay for the necessary additional PPE which has been imposed on them by Public Health England; a Government-funded body. In short, this poorly researched article may result in oral public health issues and financial damage to the dental profession.

Great explanation about the need for some practices to charge an extra fee for your treatment at the moment

You may have seen on the Prime Minister’s update yesterday that dental practices are to reopen on 8th June 🤗
Unfortunately, we heard at the same time as you did 😡
So we’ve been given just over a week to get prepared to go back to work, and I wanted to take this opportunity to give you some information about how things will be when you go to your next appointment.
Please don’t call straight away to book an appointment unless you need to see a dentist urgently i.e you are in pain, you have a broken tooth etc. It is likely that for the first week or two the available appointments will be dedicated to people with problems that need sorting. Your check up can wait another month or so 😏
There will be social distancing measures in place. You may be asked to wait in your car or outside the practice until your appointment time to keep the number of people in the waiting room to a minimum.
You will need to answer a questionnaire about COVID-19 before treatment
Your dentist/hygienist will be kitted out looking like the doctors in hospitals. We are the number one infection risk profession so we have to take as many precautions as possible. Please be reassured that I know both my practices are doing as much as they possibly can to be able to practice safely and keep you safe most of all
Your practice may not open on 8th June. It is difficult to source correct PPE at the moment and what we can find is hugely expensive. Only when everything is in place can we open
We can’t wait to get everything up and running again so we ask for your patience and we’ll see you very soon we hope!
