A note from Sam this Mental Health Awareness Week ๐
.
โI feel very passionately about Mental Health and think it is so vital we talk about it. Back in 2014 the stresses of running two restaurants led to me having a break down and having to spend some time in hospital. I have learnt very personally what a toll this industry can take on people. I have also learnt a great deal about how to manage my depression and anxiety and to realise how in many ways it is my strength and makes me who I am.
Great friends of mine set up the Charlie Waller Trust in 1997 when Charlie took his own life, whilst suffering from depression. I think they do incredible work in helping young people to understand their own mental health and equip them the support themselves and empower them to talk more around the subject. They have some brilliant resources on their website which I often use, and encourage others to do the same.
This week more then ever I will be encouraging my team to come and talk with me about any mental health concerns they may have or anything else they want to talk about. I think the pressures of life in general and working in the hospitality industry have never been tougher. I love this industry but we have to be very conscious of the strain in can have on us all. Every day we have to put on a performance twice a day and that can be very tough and very draining. Itโs just very important we keep talking and supporting each other.โ
