Another fine tournament victory from my student Carrie Li , that’s two victories now in 3 starts on the All American Tour in Texas .
Really pleased with her progress as this was here first time outside of China and she was a little nervous to say the least .

This 2-day tournamnet was NTPGA All American Tour Girls Series (16-18 year old division)held at Texas Star GC (Par 71, Distance 6014, Rating 75.5, Slope 135).
Shooting 74-74 to take the title in very hot conditions was a good effort for this excellent 16 year old girl .
She has changed her mindset now after we chatted last week , I told her she should expect to make 4-5 birdies a round with her ball striking , which is not a mindset she has had before . She made 7 birdies over the two days which is a good change of thinking from my point of view .
New venue next week and another chance to show her skills .
Keep pushing forward , everything is possible.

It’s been lovely recently to connect back up to some old friends from EGTF days , looking to gain membership to my newly formed European Golf Coaches Membership Scheme .
Remember if you need a coaching membership and are struggling we can help , for UK coaches i can offer coaching insurance ( normally sorted within a day ) which can cover you for coaching worldwide as long as you have a UK address ,photo membership card , membership certificate .
For our overseas coaches , i know the photo membership card is important to you for your golf trips , please make sure you give us enough time as the postal service now between the UK and Europe is not great . Sorry we cant do insurance for the overseas members as yet .

Just back from a fabulous Golf Training week in Valle Del Este in Almeria. This hotel is perfect if you are looking to take a group away for training . Good facilities, nice tricky golf course and fantastic weather almost year round .

Well even in these troubling times you need to make sure you are covered for all aspects of coaching . Just renewed my coaching insurance with Insure 4 Sport through European Golf Coaches.
Most of my coaching is online with people in China at the moment , but you still need to be insured to teach people via online methods , so make sure you look into that if you are doing so .

Insurance can be completed within a couple of days with the leading sports insurance company in the UK . Photo membership cards take a couple of weeks as they are sent of these days .
I started this business earlier in 2020 after getting many calls from people who were unhappy with the service they were getting from their existing membership company . It is purely a membership company aimed at filling a void in the market . It is open to anyone coaching golf from any organisation.
£180 per year for the UK membership with insurance
£125 per year for overseas members ( no insurance )

When you are giving a lesson , do you come back after and reflect the way the lesson went ?
I believe to grow as a coach you need to self reflect after each lesson .
How was you information for the student you are teaching ?
Remember not every student can grasp the complexity of the golf swing in words .
Talking about shots to play , should be reflective on the level of the student you are teaching .
And as always , if you want to be good as a coach , always analyse your performance to see where you can be better .
Offer more to every student, they deserve it , give detailed reports from each lesson so players have visual feedback from each session with you .

Good day of learning yesterday , again listening to clever people talk about different aspects of the game .
Dr Paul Hurrion continued his Quintic Ball Roll seminars tackling a different subject each week . This week he was looking at ball roll and how different spin affects the roll of the ball . Every putt will achieve true roll at some point , but if putts are hit with too much back and side spin , this can definitely cause issues in how the ball will roll out to the hole . Excessive amounts of spin will all most certain cause the ball to miss the intended line and then as a consequence the hole (over 20 rpm of spin is enough to cause the ball to miss your intended line ). Good technique and managing face and path will help keep the spin characteristics of the putt to the level where the ball stays on its intended line and rolls our purely .
Also enjoyed the Andrew Rice and Grant Waite seminar , talking about his days playing with some the greats of the game on tour and his science / bio mechanical approach to golf teaching . I especially liked the way he talked about changing neural pathways in players and that it is a difficult task and must be done slowly to begin with ,to allow the changes to sink into the system. Taking the speed out of the learning process is the best way to learn a new movement pattern . Good stuff .

Enjoyed listening to a couple of top golf people over the last two days . Phil Kenyon spoke a lot of sense about putting and today Dr Mark Bull on biomechanics in the golf swing ( this guy is clever !), and how certain problems are caused by underlying body mobility issues was absolutely first class . These informal chats are on Andrew Rice’s instagram page and well worth an hour of your time .

Excellent webinar with Dr Paul Hurrion this afternoon on the cause and effect of launch angle in putting . Highlighting the need for proper testing for players of all standards to make sure they have ,good technique and the correct loft of their putters to help create the correct launch for their putts . Fascinating to understand how much the surface can influence the flight of the ball . Looking forward to next weeks session .

Just a brief message for you if you are thinking of delivering on line golf lessons during the covid 19 situation , please check to make sure you are properly covered for insurance . Many policies don’t cover online teaching and you would still be liable if someone has an injury during your lesson .
Difficult times ahead for everyone so make sure your covered properly.
