GEO KNITS SLOW X ALTERIST 
Knit your own bag from 2nd hand Tshirts!
 
Come and join Geo from and learn how to knit your own little bag.  In the workshop you’ll learn how to make your own yarns from 2nd hand T-shirts and fabrics as well as how to follow a bag pattern.
 
Please forage around at home or in the op shops for any unwanted T-shirts or other items of clothing that you might want to use to cut up and make your own 2nd hand yarns with. Extra materials will also be supplied on the night. 
All levels are welcomed and encouraged.

This Thursday join us at the Alterist store for Imoegn Fawkes brand party! Along with getting to meet the designer, there will be DJs and giveaways!

Imogen Fawkes’ stunning corsets, skirts, and bags are crafted from vintage materials and adorned with intricate beads and jewels. Space is limited, so you must RSVP via the link in bio.

Karthur Builds is an upcycle fashion brand focusing on 1/1 custom jewellery, accessories, and clothing. It is “hardware for the h***y, subtly sustainable, and tactile.” His designs are made for those who take pleasure in uniqueness, seek naturally formed details and find humour in the mundane.

Karthur describes his creative process: “For me, almost all of my ideas come when I find something interesting to work with. Sourcing interesting silver pieces that I think would look good on a ring, or bones on a crown etc. I don’t plan a whole lot out, the ‘design’ comes to life when I’m sat looking at my materials and seeing how they could come together.”

NOT FAR BEHIND, by Smart Urhiofe, embodies a journey of discovery and transformation. Roaming the UK, Smart gathers discarded and damaged fabrics, each with its own history of neglect yet potential for resilience. In his Hackney studio, these materials are reborn into bespoke, striking garments, celebrating life’s richness and beauty.

Smart explains, “I want people to see my garments and be inspired by the fact that it was all made by one person by hand. I want to share the positivity that they too can make a difference by going against the grain using landfill-bound materials to create beautiful work.”

NINA is an East London brand that embraces materials sourced from around the world—found, gifted, or thrifted. Each garment is crafted with vibrant textures and colours, designed to endure for a lifetime and beyond.

Nina’s journey into upcycling began in her parent’s dusty attic: “I unexpectedly stumbled upon a linen tea towel with a colourful turkey printed on it. I started playing with it on the stand, folding, and tucking the fabric until I found a shape that worked, then I added straps and an old buckle I kept in a box and quickly tried it on. It worked! Inspired by the bright colors of the tea towels, and by the ever-growing upcycle community, I slowly started crafting NINA.”

Geo Knits Slow has a knack for transforming discarded textiles into sustainably sexy knitwear.

Each piece she crafts has a story to tell—from dog-chewed sheets to beautiful garments, she’s reshaping how we think about fashion. But it’s not all serious—she’s also having fun along the way.

Geo shares, ‘I want everyone to just have fun! Things can be so serious as we get older. I’m serious about changing how the fashion industry operates, but my final garments are not that serious.”’
