Scullers Head 2024

We are deeply sorry and disappointed to announce that this year’s Scullers’ Head will not go ahead due to an administrative impasse that means the required river closure will not be in place.

194 days since the beginning of the season, and now a mere 5 hours left until our Senior and Development men take on the Tideway for the final race of the winter on our home turf - 2023.

The depth of the squads at Vesta is something we are immensely proud of, as is the dedication and progress of each athlete on land and on the water. All of this is, as ever, not possbile without the backing of coaches and the rest of the club behind them. We are excited to see what Vesta A, B, C, D, E, F & G have in store for us tomorrow - good luck to everyone competing!

Race starts 13:00.

WEHORR 2023: THE RESULTS

What a phenomenal way to end head racing season for the Vesta women, with strong performances across the board. Our 1st VIII achieved the best result for the club in a decade, and three crews placed in the top 50 for only the third time in our history. Moreover, every Senior Women’s boat ranked in the top 25% of racing crews. Congratulations also to our Development Squad athletes for a great race.

The results below wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless work of our coaching team and the support of the entire club behind each crew - thank you to all involved and to The Women's Eights Head of the River Race for another great event. Next stop: training camp and regatta season!

VRC A - Senior - 16th
VRC B - Senior - 26th
VRC C - Challenge - 47th
VRC D - Senior - 76th
Dev Squad, VRC E - Challenge - 178th

CASEY TROPHY 2023

This Saturday, four crews from Vesta and Thames Rowing Club will compete in the annual race in honour of Noel Casey, a legendary figure in promoting and developing excellence in women’s rowing at both clubs.

Noel began rowing at Vesta in 1964, making the Stewards Challenge Cup final at Henley Royal Regatta in 1970, before moving to coaching at a high level at Thames through the 80s and 90s. Returning to Vesta, he helped coach the women to a win at Henley Women’s in 2004, a mere ten years after female rowers had first been admitted at the club.

His impact at both Vesta and Thames has been massive, and we look forward to a pair of great races in his honour this weekend. The race will take place over the Championship Course on the flood tide from Putney to Chiswick, beginning at 11.30am with the 2nd VIIIs, followed by the 1st VIIIs competing for the coveted Casey Trophy at 11.45am.

HEAD OF THE CHARLES REGATTA 2022

🥇 Women’s Club Coxed Fours

Having already won the Special Medal in Club 4+ in 2019, five of our senior women returned to Boston this weekend to race in Head Of The Charles Regatta - and succeeded in becoming overall winners in their event!

Congratulations to Rebecca, Fran, Lydia, Charlotte and Felicity on this outstanding achievement; a project built built over several years and with the excellent support of Vesta coaches throughout that journey.

HRR ROUND UP DAY 5

After a highly impressive and memorable race against Sydney our Women’s 8+ came up against Leander in the Semi Final. They threw everything at their opposition with commentators commending the display of grit and power from our women! An amazing campaign from these 9 women at their first Henley Royal with many more to come…

HRR DAY 4 ROUND UP

An outstanding race from our Brit 4+ who came up against a very strong opposition in Thames RC and missed out on a place in the final. Amazing to see our men in the SF doing the club so proud, a massive well done on your campaign!

A very exciting race from our Wargrave crew who came from nearly a length down off the start to take the win after a huge surged them through the crew from Sydney RC!

HRR DAY 2 ROUND UP

Another brilliant day for Vesta at HRR!
Our Brit 4+ took to the course for their second round against Irish crew Commercial in a hard fought race to the end taking the win by just 1/3 of a length! You’ll see them again on Friday against Thames!
Our Thames Challenge Cup A boat had a tough draw against Leander with a strong race but losing out to the local Henley crew!
As our women raced for the first time in the Wargrave they took victory over neighbours Thames ‘C’! They won comfortably to advance to Friday against Sydney Rowing Club!

HRR: Day 1 Round Up

Amazing work from our Wyfold 4- who, after a delayed start due to a fault with Lea’s boat, gave a strong performance and a great final surge but missed out on advancing to the next round by just 1 1/4 lengths.

Well done to our Brit 4+ who stormed to a strong lead over opposition Henley Rowing Club and move through to the next stage of racing - a great start to the first day of this inaugural 6-Day Regatta.

Tomorrow we have our Wargrave Challenge Cup and Thames Challenge Cup taking to the course for the first time this year, details of race time will be posted when released.

Though we were gutted about the cancellation of Pairs Head 2021 due to poor weather, our first big social of the year was still underway despite the rain as VRC took to the course but with a different kind of river view!

The Annual Pairs Head Pub Crawl from The Ship in Chiswick down to The Blue Anchor at Hammersmith and back home to Vesta was a great success with members old and new combining together in challenges along the route!

***SCULLERS HEAD PREVIEW***

“With 402 single scullers ready to tackle the championship course on the River Thames, Vesta Rowing Club are pleased to announce the 2021 edition of the Vesta Scullers Head.

After last year’s cancellation due to the pandemic, and fears over the opening of Hammersmith Bridge to river traffic, we're excited to announce an incredible 37 categories for this year’s race which range across many experience levels - from novice to champ - as well as generations - from Junior16s to Masters I (75 and over).

Vesta would like to wish everyone entered into the race the very best of luck, and a huge thank you to all of the volunteers involved. It is no easy task to tackle this event and you should feel excited and proud of what you are about to achieve!”
