Can kefir help people with ADHD?
After a successful preliminary trial, the team at St Mary’s University Twickenham have embarked on a bigger study on the effects of a probiotic drink (kefir) in children with ADHD, and Nourish Kefir was chosen as the kefir to be tested. We were involved throughout, sending out kefir and placebo drinks to the participants. It was very exciting to take part in this scientific study because we make REAL KEFIR from live kefir grains, and we know that real kefir has many benefits that can be transferred to our bodies. The challenge is to PROVE effectiveness, which is why this study is so important. It brings an impartial and independent analysis of the effects on the individuals drinking the kefir.
We are currently waiting for the results, but imagine how helpful this could be for families to support their loved ones needs in managing their symptoms of ADHD in a healthful and very simple way of introducing kefir into their diet! It’s an easy win! How wonderful that they decided to do this study - we are grateful to have been involved and would like to say a huge thank you to the team at St Mary’s University Twickenham 🥰🙏🏻🥛!

A big thank you to Abel & Cole who made me so welcome when I visited today! The rain poured down the whole way there, but once I arrived the sun came out! 🌦️It was really good to take a tour around the chiller warehouse where our organic Nourish Kefir drinks are stored, picked and packed for customer orders in a streamlined, fast paced operation! Welcome to the page of Nourish Kefir, the UK’s leading real kefir drink made from real kefir grains. We are producers of Nourish Kefir, and fermenters of kefir grains. Our passion is to make the best quality kefir drinks in terms of taste and benefits to the gut. Our business came about by chance - a very positive chance...
Our founder Deborah had been suffering with crohn's disease and IBS that totally disrupted her life until she discovered kefir in April 2006, by a friend who was making it with the kefir grains, at home. He told her that kefir was good for us, especially for gut health. Deborah ‘borrowed’ the kefir grains started fermenting her own kefir at home, drinking it every day and gradually her health improved. She had suffered for over 10-years with digestion problems, but within a few months of drinking kefir she could eat a normal diet and she had more energy and a healthier digestion. Deborah thought if kefir could help her it could help others and in that moment she decided to start her own kefir business.
In the early days she was importing traditional kefir to the UK under her own brand: Nourish Kefir. Then, in 2008 Deborah decided to set up a small dairy and start producing kefir in the UK. A kind wholesaler offered her some space in London, and by Jan 2009 the first British made traditional kefir was sold in shops around London!
If you are unfamiliar with our products, Nourish Kefir is a fermented milk drink - made from fresh, organic whole cows milk, following a centuries old traditional recipe that transforms milk into a 'superfood' or ‘miracle' milk, as we like to call it!
Nourish Kefir is naturally probiotic - we don't add the bacteria, they grow during fermentation. The taste is natural, slightly sour, creamy and refreshing (not sweet - there's no sugar in it). As far as we know Nourish Kefir is the only commercially available, traditional - artisan kefir drink made in the UK made from the living kefir grains.
