INTRODUCING 'ELDON'

‘Eldon’ is a GP & J Baker Original designed by renowned textile artist William Turner in 1920 near the end of his long career. Returning to the original design painted in opaque watercolours, the pattern has been re-engraved with subtle texture to more closely match the block-printed original.

Distinctive and diverse, the ‘Faraway’ collection of prints and embroideries from Threads at GP & J Baker is relaxed yet sophisticated with each design displaying an artisanal, hand-crafted quality. The collection conjures the romance of exotic travel in a colour palette ranging from chalky, earth tones inspired by mineral rocks and pebble beaches through to the deep, dusty ochres of scorched earth and the saturated indigo hues of the ocean.

Originally produced as an eight-colour roller print by GP & J Baker in 1910, 'Tulip & Jasmine' features delicate motifs that incorporate elements of the Arts and Crafts past, most notably the serpentine leaves, and bears reference to a more simplified, modern vision of nature. Lee Jofa

Taken from the archive and painted by William Turner in 1915, 'Chifu' is a dramatic Chinoiserie design of swirling dragons, formalised clouds and branches laden with blooms and based on an 18th century Chinese imperial dragon robe. Rich in symbolic meaning denoting power, strength and good luck, the number of dragon motifs traditionally revealed the wearer’s rank and status.

This inviting garden room by Coote&Co. artfully brings the outside indoors, using 'Chifu' in Emerald to adorn the walls.
