Explore the relationship between taxonomies and toxicities. The etymologies of TAXONOMY and TOXICITY are derived from the Greek roots TACTICS and TOXIKON respectively, and were first invented as vocabularies of war. Today, taxonomies have categorised life itself, drawing lines between what we perceive to be toxic and pure. More details + last chance tickets at the link in our bio. ica.art/the-toxic-consultancy

New programme announcement! Introducing ICA Creatives 🎥 What can we do with art? Can we create art that brings us together? How can we build creative community through making and learning? ICA Creatives is a series of free artist-led workshops open to people aged 16 – 30. Exploring these questions, the programme is made up of four strands (cinema, sound, performance and digital) with an opportunity to learn more about the behind the scenes of the ICA. Workshops are designed to build skills in specific art forms, learn from artists, meet industry professionals and understand how things work in a world-class interdisciplinary arts organisation. There is an opportunity for participants to showcase their collective work made during the workshops to the public in a building-wide takeover of the ICA at the end of March 2024. Each series will allow for 15 participants to attend weekly workshops. The aim of this programme is to support emerging talent and creativity. No prior art making experience is necessary, but you must be able to commit to all sessions and select one strand to attend.

Yvonne Rainer on avoiding the audience gaze, filmmaking vs dancing, and accepting mistakes
Filmmaker, dancer and choreographer Yvonne Rainer explains how her shift from dance choreography to film was influenced by her desire to challenge the traditional relationship with the audience, avoiding the traditional gaze of dance and finding new ways to manipulate and explore the audience-performer dynamic in film.
Listen to the full interview with Yvonne Rainer, a pioneering figure in the America avant-garde movement, on our podcast Infrequencies. ica.art/infrequencies
The original talk was held on 17 August with film researcher Oliver Fuke to open a season at the ICA celebrating Rainer’s extensive work.
Behind the scenes of Gray Wielebinski's first institutional solo exhibition 'The Red Sun is High, the Blue Low'. The show runs from 20 September to 23 December. In Wielebinski’s installation environment, overlapping worlds feel both familiar and strange. With references to sci-fi, Cold War legacies and games, it could be viewed as a processing of terminal capitalism and the omnipresence of a collective low-grade anxiety. Exhibition hours: Tuesday to Thursday: 4 – 9pm Friday to Sunday: 12 – 9pm Read more + book tickets here: ica.art/gray-wielebinski-the-red-sun-is-high-the-blue-low

Preview screening of Fremont by Babak Jalali + Q&A on Thu 14 Sep at the ICA. Donya, a young Afghan who moved to Fremont, California after serving as a translator for the American army, spends her days working at a fortune cookie factory and her nights wide awake battling between her desire to rebuild her life and the overbearing guilt she carries within. In a bid to connect with the world, she sends an unconventional message through a fortune cookie. Tinged with Jarmuschian deadpan humour, this sensitive immigrant tale packs a breakout performance by Anaita Wali Zada, who is a refugee as well as an actor, and joined by a perpetually off-kilter Gregg Turkington and Jeremy Allen White from The Bear as a heartthrob mechanic. This special preview screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Babak Jalali, hosted by Ella Kemp.
