Soaking vs E-file Soaking isn’t the only way to remove gel-polish. Using an electric file saves time and can be easy to do once you use the proper technique. Not only are electric files a time saver when it comes to removing your soak-off gels, using them can also be better for your nails than soaking in acetone. "Super dry, damaged nails will get drier and more brittle with acetone exposure. Gel/Polish remover significantly dries out the nail, leading to brittleness, splitting, peeling and breakage. This will leave the skin open for hang nails and splits on the nail surface" - Board-certified dermatologist and nail specialist Dana Stern. Electric file is much more safe to the nail plate if correct technique and nail drill bits were used. Nail drill bit can differ with its abrasions. Coarse is for acrylic/gel and medium to mild to remove gel polish. Nowadays, we have so many gel polish brands that some of them won’t be removed with usual soaking technique, due to their formulation containing more of a gel rather than polish. So e-file could be one of the options to remove such product. If a clients nails are already dry and brittle there is no point to dry them out even more with acetone, the product can be remove using e-file. Or a client has a gel polish like BeautiX or Shellac which can be easily soaked off with acetone with 5 minutes exposure than there is no need in e-file.
