NEW ORIGIN: PITCAIRN đ”đł
The climatic conditions and volcanic soil on Pitcairn are exceptional and unusually good for growing high-quality coffee. Coffee is not new to Pitcairn - the original coffee trees are essentially wild, having been left largely unattended for over 200 years. The islanders have always harvested small artisanal amounts for their own consumption, but recently a vanguard of residents and overseas supporters, keen to halt the decline of Pitcairn, have identified the potential for coffee production to boost Pitcairnâs private sector and attract new people to the island.
Sea Island is part of a project to help Pitcairn develop their small coffee industry, improving production and fine-tuning their processing techniques, with the aim of creating employment opportunities and attracting new residents to the island. A few years ago, a nursery was established and approximately 400 new coffee trees were planted, and a small amount have now been exported to Sea Island Coffee. As these trees continue to mature, they will help to boost production. Even in the projectâs infancy, the quality of Pitcairnâs coffee is already superb, and the aim is to turn Pitcairnâs coffee production into a viable and sustainable industry.

Celebrating International Womenâs Day - we thought we would take this opportunity to talk about The MIMA cooperative, founded in 2018 and run entirely by 30 women in the Avaratriniavo region of Itasy, Madagascar. It is led by a lady called Raozilala, the leader of a womenâs association beforehand. When she heard about an opportunity to grow and sell coffee, she convinced the other women in the association to get involved in the coffee project, and thatâs how the MIMA cooperative was born.
The MIMA cooperative produces a Red Bourbon Arabica coffee which is grown in the shade of banana and avocado trees, sun dried in raised beds and processed naturally. The coffee trees flower in July and coffee is harvested in May/June of each year. đČđŹ

NEW ORIGIN: SĂO TOMĂ
We are excited to continue our mission to ethically source the largest selection of rare single-origin coffees.
SĂŁo TomĂ©âs rich volcanic soil, tropical forest shade, and a humid equatorial climate create ideal conditions for their small production coffee. Local farmers in Sao Tome have focused on producing small lots of high-quality beans, making Sao Tome coffee quite a rare and exotic origin and also giving the coffee its lovely distinctive characteristics.
These arabica beans are grown at an average altitude of 700 meters and hand-picked by the âCooperativa de Exportacao de Cafe Biologicoâ, 250 coffee farmers in the district of Trindade Monte CafĂ©. Members of the cooperative have worked to boost the coffee sector in SĂŁo TomĂ© through revitalizing old plantations on the slopes of SĂŁo TomĂ©âs iconic MontĂ© Pico and establishing an organic farming certification.
