🏗👷‍️ As we gear up to open the doors of HCA UK Canary Wharf Outpatients, we're thrilled to see the safe arrival of two advanced MRI scanners. These powerful machines are no lightweights, and our team certainly did an impressive job to make sure a whopping 7 tonnes 3T scanner and 4.2 tonnes 1.5T scanner were carefully installed within our state-of-the-art facility – they made it in with just 2.5 millimetre clearance👏 “The new scanners are equipped with advanced AI capabilities, delivering images of exceptional clarity, higher clinical productivity and a better patient experience. This translates to faster diagnoses, potentially leading to earlier detection and intervention for a wider range of medical conditions. We are proud to be at the forefront of innovation, continuously striving to improve patient care,” says Tej Bangay, Head of Imaging Service Line, HCA Healthcare UK. We can’t wait to show you what’s in store at Canary Wharf this year, stay tuned for more updates. In the meantime, you can learn more about our outpatient centre at https://bit.ly/3W5nqrr.

London Bridge Hospital's Endometriosis Centre has been accredited by the BSGE
“The BSGE accreditation programme sets the national standards for centres that treat patients with complex endometriosis. To gain this accreditation, we have to meet a significant number of cases, submit data and an ‘exemplar video’ to prove that we are keeping up to the most modern practices and have the skills and experience required to treat patients with complex endometriosis,” explains Mr Nitish Narkevar, Consultant Gynaecologist. In this video, we interviewed Mr Narkevar to find out more about the BSGE accreditation process and what this means to patients who are looking for expert treatment for #endometriosis. We are incredibly proud to have renewed our accreditation and to be able to offer quality treatment for women with all forms of endometriosis. What happens inside a cath lab theatre?
What happens inside a cath lab theatre? Today, we're shining a spotlight on Andrea, our Cath Lab Manager. Andrea oversees three cath labs, two of which are hybrid theatres. With 8 years of experience she ensures that every patient receives the highest standard of care. Her day to day running of the labs will involve cardiac cases, vascular, radiology and pain cases. “Cath lab is an area that we specialise in different procedures that take place. Initially it is for patients that have cardiac procedures, patients that may have blockages inside their heart arteries and the coronaries. We have a very special and unique team that are able to put cardiac stents in the arteries and open up any blockages that may be there. If we do vascular cases, we will unblock any blockages that may be in the vascular arteries and veins within the body. I have tremendous passion and drive to help people. My biggest achievement so far is working at London Bridge Hospital, and I love my team!”

Despite having type 2 diabetes, 57-year old, Saleem keeps an active lifestyle to remain fit and healthy. He plays badminton once a week and goes for a walk in the morning and evening every day. At the beginning of 2023, Saleem went for a health assessment and his test results showed a serious heart abnormality and had at least two blockages in his coronary arteries. “I had so many questions such as why didn’t have any symptoms, I hadn’t felt breathlessness nor chest pains…” So he went to see Mr Chris Young, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at London Bridge Hospital, to get some answers. "It’s easy for the symptoms of artery disease to be masked by diabetes so it's important to regularly monitor your heart if possible,“ says Mr Young. Saleem was then scheduled for a coronary pulmonary bypass to treat his condition, and was discharged just five days after his surgery.
