With a week off this Saturday we thought it would be good to introduce our DOR for Wimbledon RFC. Collin Osborne has been with the club now for 4 years. He joined us as he felt it was a better prospect than Harlequins Rugby Union where we had spent the previous 22 seasons. TRYLIGHTS vs Havanat - 28th January 2023
🚨TRYLIGHTS INCOMING🚨 Saturday against Havant Rugby Football Club was always going to be a game of attrition and boy did the Dons absorb a lot of it. Going into the break 7-11 down the boys nailed down and started dishing out some of their own in the second half. Immense performances from Sam Gratton and Max Lufkin saw the Dons claw their way back into the game as Havant proceeded to implode with the referee having none of their discipline woes. Captain Jack Cooke leading from the front. The final nail in the coffin was a brilliant lineout from Max Freeman and taken up by the forwards. Matt Grobler burrowing over for the Bonus point try. Final score 22-16. It's games like these that will beweekly fare if the Dons are to go into the National Leagues again after a 5 year hiatus next year. With 4 games to go the Dons cannot switch off. Rivals Camberley Rugby Club having dropped 4 points at Bournemouth have allowed the gap to widen to 5 overall if they make good on their catch up games. Wimbledon vs Maidenhead - 21st January 2023
🚨TRYLIGHTS INCOMING🚨 The Dons hosted Maidenhead RFC away from home last night on the AGP at London Irish Wild Geese due to weather. Maids came flying out the blocks and had the Dons down by 0-10 after 15 minutes. Slowly but surely the home team clawed their way back. Injuries caused the Dons to play with 14 men for the last 10 mins of the game where they scored 2 tries to end 38-24 winners. Thanks to Maidenhead RFC for an absolute belter of a game and pushing us the whole way. A great credit to the players and coaching staff. RE-SIGNED: Owen Davies recommits to Wimbledon RFC for the 2022/23 season. Torn between his love of Football and passion for Rugby it was the Welsh RFU who snapped up Owen Davies as a Scrumhalf for the U16, U18 and U20 Wales team. The die was cast. During his student days he earned a promotion for the University of Cardiff to the BUCS Super League and then was a star performer before joining the Dragons for two seasons in the Seniors. After a sabbatical with The Tigers in Hong Kong he returned to the United Kingdom and headed for South West London to join Wimbledon RFC. Having a stellar season in 21/22 and being interchangeable between Scrum and Flyhalf, Owen Davies is the metronome that will keep the Wimbledon machine ticking over when the League starts. He can score a TRY too! PRESEASON - TONIGHT and every Tuesday and Thursday from the 21st June, 2022 at 7.30pm. BE THERE! Our 2's travelled to neighbours Richmond Saxons last saturday and started off well with a try within 60 seconds. Even spoils until about the half hour mark when Richmond pullede away. Great effort by the team and every week improving bit by bit.
