Despite the Israeli army's relentless bombing campaign having demolished scores of mosques in Palestine’s Gaza, the call to prayer, or adhan, continues to emanate from the besieged city’s ruins, inviting worshipers to pray together amidst the debris of the destroyed mosques.

"We are determined to come to the mosque for prayer and raise the call to prayer amid Israel's genocidal war on Gaza," 23-year-old Yasser Hassouna told Anadolu Agency.

"We used to celebrate and decorate the mosques, but everything vanished because of the war," recalled Awwad Shurafa, 55. "The occupation forces caused destruction everywhere, demolishing our homes and mosques, displacing and killing Palestinians, and eliminating the joy of Ramadan," he added.
Israel’s war on Gaza has destroyed around 1,000 mosques since October 7, 2023, according to local authorities.

Protected as cultural property under International Humanitarian Law, the targeting of religious sites and places of worship — including mosques — is considered illegal under international law.
