At Hope Green we are continuing our celebration of National Allotments Week and we have been enjoying mint and fruit tasters together.
The smell of the freshly squeezed lemons, with fresh mint and ginger was lovely, and the tastes were very refreshing.
Our Hospitality team served everyone in the home, with choices of drinks with a sprinkle of sugar or with an alternative of fresh strawberries.
It was lovely to see how our tastes vary and how many people remembered picking their own strawberries in the past on local farms or growing their own.

We’re celebrating National Allotments Week at Hope Green with a variety of activities including discussions on growing our own crops using the NAPA activity packs, puzzles and colouring beautiful butterflies.
We also explored the smells, textures and tastes of a variety of herbs. It was fun to chat about our favourite recipes, our likes, and dislikes and even how herbs are used in different drinks around the world.
Angela who lives with us on Hope Green Way decided to water them and look after them whilst making plans for using some of the mint in drinks and refreshments later in the week.

We’ve really been enjoying the Olympics at Hope Green and we’ve been looking back today on how we made our own Olympic torches, passed them around the home as we sent them on their journeys, completed Olympic themed arts and crafts in the sunshine, and held our own Olympic themed Summer Party with games for everyone where we presented medals to the winners.

Today we finished the Olympic games as champions with our very own pony races with the children in the garden.
After spending time brushing the ponies and getting to know them, they set off from the starting line.

It was wonderful to watch the ponies enjoying racing together with the children along the paths and even overtaking on the grass, making us all smile and laugh as we cheered them on.
It was a fantastic way to celebrate the end of our Olympic journey together.

We’re making the most of the lovely weather at Hope Green and this week we enjoyed a trip out to the local garden centre.
It was great to spend time outside amongst the beautiful flowers and trees, discussing our favourites and particularly reminiscing about crops we had grown ourselves.
We popped into the shopping area to have a look around at the gifts too, relaxing and taking our time to browse.

What a fantastic afternoon in the gardens of Hope Green as everyone joined together for our Olympics Summer Party.
There was live music from Andy & Colin, a range of Olympic games including a Just Bowl competition organised by Tom, one of our Duke of Edinburgh students, and a variety of party food and refreshments.
The sun shone as we sang and danced the afternoon away with friends in the fresh air.

More...fresh air
As part of our Lifestyle Programme at Hope Green, we enjoyed a lovely Nibbles & Natter session in the garden.
Oomph Weekly & Oomph Digest provided us with lots of ideas for discussion as we chatted and enjoyed refreshments in the shade on a hot and sunny day.

As part of our 'Make a Wish' initiative, Angela made a wish to visit a theatre so we booked tickets for Angela and her friend Peter to a wonderful show ‘Thanks for The Memories’ at our local theatre, Stockport Plaza.
Filled with music through the decades, wonderful performances, and costumes, along with a flag waving finale, it was a fantastic afternoon.
When asked how it made her feel to fulfil her wish Angela said, ‘it makes me happy’.
We even met the stars of the show for autograph signing too!

There was a lot of fun and excitement at Hope Green as we lit the Olympic Torch from the flames of Olympia (our reception) and passed it around the home.
We had fun making the flames and torch using items from our craft basket, and it was great to see everyone indoors and outside in the gardens getting into the spirit of the games.

A very big thankyou to our Poynton High School students for a splendid afternoon tea followed by musical performances.

After short taxi rides, we were welcomed by students who escorted us into the main hall and treated us immediately to cups of tea and plenty of smiles.

The people who live with us on Hope Green Street and Hope Green Way commented ‘what a lovely afternoon we have had together’ and ‘the students are so talented’.

It was wonderful to be part of this community event and we are definitely looking forward to visiting again later in the year.

Our 18th July Languagility session was a fabulous time bringing those who live with us on Hope Green Street and Hope Green Way together to explore colours in French. The session included games, music, dancing, and lots of fun as we spoke in French with our very best French accents.

It has been great to see Tom, one of our Duke of Edinburgh students, returning to organise games and competitions with the people who live with us.
We had a fun time with Just Bowl in the garden, enjoying the friendships, fresh air and getting ‘moving’.

On Sunday morning Angela and her friend who lives with us on Hope Green Way attended the Sunday morning Catholic Mass at the local St. Pauls Church in Poynton. We were delighted to be part of a Christening taking place during the service too.

Angela commented that it had been ‘a very special morning’ and the Catholic faith had been such a big part of her childhood that it ‘was lovely to be back in church again’, ‘it was very special to light a candle for my family’, ‘thank you so much for organising this’.

We received a very warm welcome from the congregation and joined them for refreshments and conversations after the service. We were even given gifts of crosses with the Lord’s Prayer on them.

What an amazing trip out on the Canal. From start to finish we had such a great time aboard the Mary Sunley Canal Boat watching other boats, studying the different bridges, spotting geese and ducks with their young and we even saw a heron on the bank.
We also enjoyed some quizzes, colouring, and after a picnic lunch, a lovely singalong together.

More….fresh air amongst wonderful scenery and wildlife.

Hope Green celebrated American Independence Day with some great painting of American flags which we are going to make into bunting for our celebrating Cultures Day later in the month.
It was also lovely to get our brains active by completing American Sports wordsearches and chatting about our own favourite sports and our travels to America.

Gardening Club at Hope Green continues to keep us active and enjoy the seasons together.
This week we ‘planted out’ new perennials into pots and continued to look after our bedding plants which are now providing some lovely colour to the garden.
There is always so much to do and it’s a great way to get to know each other better as we spend time out in the fresh air and being productive.

National Cream Tea Day was celebrated with a wonderful fun afternoon filled with bunting, union jack flags, and of course freshly baked scones with jam and cream alongside cups of tea.
The decorations sparked a lot of interest as Cream Teas were delivered to everyone who lives with us at Hope Green.
Some people enjoyed group discussions where there were comments of ‘oh this is lovely’ and ‘it’s a party’ whilst others sat quietly enjoying the delicious treats and savouring every moment with contented smiles.

Languagility sessions at Hope Green are being enjoyed by the people who live with us and have now provided us with a lovely connection for one lady who originates from Hong Kong & speaks Mandarin and Cantonese.
Ping is now enjoying weekly one to one conversational sessions with a Cantonese visitor and they are a fabulous success. Ping has also received some lovely gifts from her too, helping to connect her to her roots. Pictures of bamboo and blossom trees are now in her room along with Cantonese books which she enjoys reading. It is wonderful to see the connections being made and to listen to the excitement as Ping chats freely in her native language.

A ‘live’ singalong Colin on piano and Andy on guitar was followed in the afternoon by local musicians Unique and a dementia friendly, interactive storytelling session with fun props and jokes.
The people who live with us had been busy preparing props to be used as part of the storytelling too which were a great success and everyone enjoyed taking part with singing and dancing together.

Recently, some of our colleagues attended the Care Home Awards on behalf of Maria Mallaband Care Group, where we picked up not one but TWO awards! 👏
We are beyond proud of every colleague at the company who has enabled us to do the work that we do and provide an exceptional level of care to those living with us.
We would also like to thank the Care Home Awards for hosting a wonderful ceremony where we were able to connect with other industry professionals and provide those hard-working individuals with the recognition they deserve. 🤗

We continue to celebrate cultures at Hope Green and this month we embraced the country of Mexico with a fun filled day.
During the morning some of the people who live with us prepared decorations for the dining tables, and gathered to chat about holidays and languages whilst busy colouring, cutting and organising.
After a Mexican inspired lunch, we had an amazing session with Languagility where we enjoyed a Mexican themed Spanish lesson filled with ponchos, sombreros, games and fun.

What a fantastic day despite the weather on our canal boat trip with the local community group Golden Memories.
There were lots to see along the way including Herons, Geese and Ducks with their young ones, growling lambs and colourful foliage.
We enjoyed looking at all the different canal boats, designs and names and a variety or architecture too as we went under bridges and past an old mill.
Buffet lunch was served on board and there was some great conversations and new friendships.
