Thames Ditton Miniature Railway [M&DSME] (October 2019 Visit) - BLR Visits

Today saw the upload of our visit to the wonderful Malden & District Society of Model Engineers (AKA. Thames Ditton Miniature Railway) video, filmed back in October. This is a truly wonderful railway, extremely popular with the locals, and certainly worth a visit! Two gauges running parallel with one another? What more could you ask for? Suffice to say, we'll be back next season! 😁

Well, what a fantastically festive day we've had today! As ever, Barnards Miniature Railway offered nothing but the best in the way of their Santa Specials. Two steamers hauled the special trains, Joan and Dorris Hilburn, taking it in turns between the half-hourly festive trains. The lovely sunny weather too made for a really lovely day. There's something magical about this time of year, and the BMR Santa Specials never fail to encapsulate it perfectly. We've been before, we came today, and we shall certainly go again. Thank you to all the staff at BMR and Barnards Farm for a simply lovely day, and a fantastic end of season Christmas special visit too. We'll see you next year! Merry Christmas, everyone! πŸ˜πŸŽ…πŸŽ„πŸŽ

Hollycombe: Steam in the Country (June 2019 Visit) - BLR Visits

Once again, we're headed back in time to a wonderful place called 'summer'! Remember that? Remember how warm and lovely it was? Yeah... so do we!
Anyway, during that lovely warm and sunny period, we took a visit down to the wonderful Hollycombe. For those who don't know, Hollycombe: Steam in the Country, is effectively a steam lovers paradise. Situated down in the Hampshire countryside, it consists of just about anything and everything steam-orientated. A truly marvellous place to behold! Regrettably, the 7.1/4" gauge railway wasn't operational on our visit due to maintenance being carried out on the line. But that didn't ruin our fun! 😁😎

Something different for a change! Back in August, when we were still finding our feet, we traveled down to Cornwall for a long weekend. Whilst there, we took a ride on the incredibly scenic Looe to Liskeard line. Some truly stunning views of the Looe Bay were to be had! And of course, before the day was out, we had to see the unit pass the local level crossing too! Simply, beautiful. 😁
Bring back the summer!! 😎😎

Another lovely day at East Herts Miniature Railway today. It's safe to say, the festive period is now officially upon us! Which begs the question, does that technically make this our first festive post of the year? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
Anyway, as the sun went down today and the lights came on, it became pretty clear why EHMR is such a beautiful place at this time of the year. β„πŸŽ„πŸŽβ˜ƒοΈπŸ˜

"Lest We Forget"

It's easy to forget, sometimes, the importance of everything around us. To underappreciated what we have and what we do. Neglect to realise just how lucky we are. When you woke up on this cold November morning in those nice warm sheets, you rose and prepared for your day. You made your plans. Maybe you're going out with friends. Seeing family for a Sunday dinner. Just having another lazy day around the house. You saw the sun. You smiled. But none of this would be possible, if it weren't for all those brave men and women, who gave their souls to fight for what they believed in. Your freedom. Your democracy. Your very way of life. The sacrifices they made 100 years ago for you to live your life. Imagine, waking up in a trench. Cold. Baron. Disease ridden. The sound of gun fire all around. The sound of your fellow men taking what could be their final breath. The sound of impending death. Fighting for a future. A future which belongs to us. A future which otherwise wouldn't have been possible. They gave so much, so we could have it all. And so today, on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, we fall silent, as the guns did 100 years ago. And we remember.

Lest We Forget...

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we shan't be visiting Watford Miniature Railway today. πŸ˜₯ It is a great shame, but we're already looking to rearrange, and it won't be long before we're able to try again!

Well what a brilliant day we've had today! As ever, the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway offered its usual spectacles of amazement and wonder. We had an absolute blast today, and not even the good old British weather could make us blue. Double-headers, parallel runs, visiting engines, diesels, steamers, and SO MUCH FUN! We love the RH&DR - our home from home. And with each visit, we only get more and more envious of the greatness they have to offer. Today was simply fantastic, and we'd like to offer our sincere thanks to the wonderful team for putting on such a spread! See you next season guys! 😁
