Maldon in review
Personal blog
I wish I could share this beautiful sight that seems to fill every window of my flat this morning, but I can’t, just like I can’t get my photos to do this beautiful lady justice.
I’ve never been one to give inanimate objects names and laughed at people who refer to their cars as male and female.
Yet as I stand here looking at Queen Galadriel, I can’t help but feel a life force emanating from her.... it’s as if she has her own vibe, she is beautiful and she knows it. And just like a beautiful woman she laughs at me and all I can do is stare, as I long for her knowing she will never be mine.
In some small way I feel she whispers to me for appreciating her beauty and for that I’m grateful.
Her owners tell me she is used to take disadvantaged kids to sea to give them life skills and I can’t think of anything more nobler and I fall in love all the more for it.
An image fills my head of Galadriel keeled over, head into the wind, dancing across the waves as children’s peals of delight fill the air ... once just once I wish I was a child again.
I’m reminded of a song by Deacon Blue about a council bin man who puts up with his job to fulfil his dream of buying a boat and calling her Dignity ... I understand!!
This ship too is giving Dignity to those less fortunate than us.
What a beautiful morning to be alive and living in my new town Maldon.
Go and see this beautiful craft and don’t tell but whisper to her that Barry sent you.
“This ship called DIG-NIT-YYY”
I’ve said it before and I will say it again ... Maldon is a place that just won’t stop giving !!!
Where else in the world can you wake up and find a Spanish Galleon outside your house ???
Isn’t this ship lovely ???
When your dog goes and lies on his CV about his extensive sheep dog experience !!!
How we came to live in Maldon !!
“Ever since I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster”..... I mean a sailor.. a sailor !!
Well not quite but I’m a lover of all things nautical as anyone will attest to as they see me cutting around town wearing my new sailor coat !
I’ve only been here 6 weeks but as an adopted son of Maldon I feel I need to look the part and Im NOT about to let the side down!!
So it’s always a pleasure for me to go down to where the barges are moored and check them out for sea worthiness!
Obviously those barge captains recognise a man of the sea when they see one, and I’m just waiting for the weather to get warmer before I get press ganged into hunting whale. I know I know ... I’ve watched the film ... I won’t sign my name; just an X and a thumb print !! I’ve got this !
It’s just a bit cold at the mo .... brrrrr !!! 🥶🥶🥶🥶
Anyhoo ... The reason why I rushed back today is because I was told Maldon is flooded!!
Now I’ve got my eye on a pleasure craft or two and was hoping that one would have washed onto my property and I would have been able to claim it as a sea prize by way of salvage and maritime law.
I live in a flat but it’s on the river so you never quite know !!!
However ... I was to be disappointed 😔! It was just an exceptionally high tide that everyone was banging on about !!
Still it was nice to be out by the ships shouting “Ahoy” at the sea captains and watching them scurry below. I don’t know why they always do that when they see me coming ?? Must be a seaman thing...!!
Till next time yo!!
