PRODUCTIVITY

Why is it that sometimes we can achieve so much and other times so little? I am definitely motivated by a deadline, even back to my school days, homework was never handed in early, always on time, never late. I am the same now, those characteristics are still evident in my behaviour, I am a Finance Director in my offline life and every month I am super productive in the days before a deadline. I find that during those days / weeks it isn’t only work that gets done, my house looks spotless, the washing is done, the kids homework is ready and prepared for them, meals are planned and it leads to a massive feeling of accomplishment. But, and here is the caveat, this maybe lasts 1-2 weeks before I am back to my slovenly ways struggling to motivate myself to put a load of washing on, or leaving a dish to soak for three days or even at work a task which should take 10-15 mins takes an hour.

I have over the years endeavoured to find tricks and tips to keep me productive, or at least to having a minimum standard of what needs to be achieved to maintain a stable mind. For example, with my clothes (vintage and new), I really like to make an effort to keep them maintained, I have learnt though, however much I try, dry clean only garments rarely get the wear they deserve as I know my motivation rarely stretches to that level of upkeep. In a perfect world I would outfit plan for the week, accessories and all, but the reality of being a working mum means this is a luxury I generally forgo. One thing that does keep my sanity is only having ironed and ready to wear items in my wardrobe so that whatever I do pick in the morning rush is good to go.

Being ready for the day definitely improves my productivity and even if I’m having a slow day existing in a lovely outfit always cheers me up. How do you stay productive?

Monday Memories

Here is my Grandma in her beautiful wedding dress. Post war there was a shortage of fabrics and wedding gowns were a luxury item. However there was a scheme in place, set up by Eleanor Roosevelt, for engaged servicewomen to apply to borrow a donated wedding dress. My Grandma was lucky enough to get selected so rather than wearing her wrens uniform she was able to dress in this elegant number. Her sister picked and arranged her flowers from their grandparents garden and all in all a wonderful day followed by an awesome marriage, 7 children, 13 grandchildren and 13 (so far) great-grandchildren. Sadly they are no longer with us but the legacy lives on.

I designed and made my own vintage style wedding dress, with vintage accessories largely inspired by the 1940s era.

Friday Ponderings - INSIPIRATION
In a world where we are told to not to compare ourselves to others, to live our own lives to follow our own path, where does inspiration fit in?

We all know that picture perfect lives are just that, perfect for the picture. Behind every red carpet look there is a team of people and day to day life in contrast is in part, plain and mundane.

So should we stop sharing these images? In short no and here’s why.

I want to be inspired, I want to float through Instagram, or turn glossy pages and see beauty and art and fashion. These images have been curated and created not to make me feel negatively towards myself but to showpiece hard work, hours sat at a make up chair, days spent in fittings and whilst we will pick and choose what inspires each of us and so long as we are aware that images have been modified, we are for all intents and purposes looking at art, a feast for the eyes

As a teenager I spent hours pouring over magazines and many evenings perfecting my makeup and hair for a school disco. It made me feel confident, not because I suddenly looked more beautiful but because I had practised my electric blue eyeliner and Bjork space buns and I felt on fire. Did I look like the girls in the magazines? No. Did I feel like they looked? Most definitely yes!

So please keep posting incredible images, be that of an amazing dinner, a distant landscape or of beautiful people, we all need to be inspired.
