World Greyhound Organisation
The World Greyhound Organisation (WGO) was formed to give all countries and their greyhounds a voice.
WGO will endeavour to unite all countries under one umbrella to encourage development and understanding of the magnificent animal we call a greyhound.
The World Greyhound Organisation Statistics have arrived!
We have been hard at work over the last several months creating this feature and now it has arrived. You can now see things such as:
• The total number of retired greyhounds that we have on file
• Who are the top adoption groups
• The top 10 world's best adoption groups
Every day the data is calculated from information we have regarding greyhounds and also from Greyhound-Data.com, bringing you up to date information.
It is important that we track (as much as possible) where these dogs are in the world to try and ensure their continued care. These statistics are just a numeric representation of their adoption and retirement.
Please be aware that our figures are nowhere near complete. We need the help of adoption groups and owners who have adopted a greyhound to register with us. If you have a lot of information that you need to send, regarding greyhounds that have past through your group / home, then contact us and we will talk you through the best way of getting this information to us.
As time goes on and more people register their information with us then the statistics will become more meaningful.
We have built the building blocks to trace every greyhound in the world from birth to their passing now it is up to you. Help us ensure all greyhounds worldwide get the help and support they deserve.
Join us today!
Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.
Great news folks! You may know that for a while now, when you register your dog with the WGO, you get an email containing the certificate of registration but we have now added a little extra... 🙃⬇️⬇️⬇️
With the help of Greyhound-Data we are now also able to add the pedigree information in the form of an additional and free Pedigree Certificate showing you your dog's bloodline going back 4 generations.
Thank you for helping us to improve welfare for greyhounds around the world!
Happy Holidays from the WGO Team🎄💝
📣The World Greyhound Organisation needs your help!📣
📝Please register your greyhound now online via the following link in this post to ensure the welfare of your dog, and to improve the quality of our global registry.

As you may know it is not easy for us to get the information with regards to your greyhound’s past for example, we have to investigate with what we know from what you have given us. This could be a race name or ear brand or microchip number etc. With the help from Greyhound-Data we search the database to try and find details so your dog’s history so that it can be kept up to date.
So, you may ask “why are we doing this?”. The simple answer is to:
“ Unite all countries under one umbrella to encourage development and understanding of the magnificent animal we call a greyhound. ”
It is important to maintain records to pinpoint the critical places that welfare is needed.
We achieve this by recording the data in a studbook. In the past only race details were kept for a handful of countries. This is where the World Greyhound Organisation (WGO) comes in.
The WGO was set up to give every greyhound a voice in every country in the world. This means that as an organisation we are determined to help countries to setup retirement centres where by the dogs have a safety net and can then be rehomed.
To do this we need all the help we can get with regards to your greyhound details. The WGO has an online registration form whereby you can register your dog into the studbook of your country. The more dog’s we get registered means the more dogs we can help.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Greyhoundhilfe Deutschland e.V. kindly providing the image of the greyhound above called Pfingsten.

But wait, there's more...
Snapshot 8:
💸💸💸and this is where it hurts the hip pocket💸💸💸
In the last decade, GRV are now returning it's lowest % of its total income to participants, and we only went back to 2008 🤷
The worst part of this is that for every 1% is a $1,03 million annually 💸💸💸
Based on the other snapshots, you know where this is going. So you need to decide, are you happy with how our industries money is being disbursed? Do you think it's being evenly spread?
If you're not happy, what are you going to do to help? All you have to do, is join us. We'll do the rest $60 for a single or $100 for a double for 5 years isn't a lot.
Membership numbers mean we are heard, we cannot be ignored. If you're happy with the status quo just keep reading. I'm sure you won't get angrier 🤔 because surely there isn't any more bad news??? Wrong!!! We're not done, there's more to come
Snapshot 3:
Now this one is a doozy...
Admin expenses were up, not just by a little bit but by 13.4% that equates to $1.69 million in prize money you as participants DIDN'T receive... Again prize money is down, did we mention by $800,000???
Keep working your guts out guys, everyone knows it doesn't cost anything to feed yourself, your family, or your dogs.
It's been proven cost of living is up, but apparently not if you train greyhounds for a living. Harsh in our assumption? Perhaps, but the truth hurts...
Do you know the difference between Animal Rights and Animal Welfare? You might be surprised.
The Cavalry Group defines Animal Rights and Animal Welfare on their website as:
ANIMAL RIGHTS advocates that animals are equal to humans. It advocates for the rejection of all animal use, regardless of how humane, and advocates for liberation of all animals from human care. They want you to eat no more meat, to drink no more dairy, and to be a vegan; they want to end circuses and rodeos, end horse and greyhound racing, eliminate all pets, ban hunting & fishing, etc.
ANIMAL WELFARE endorses the responsible use of animals to satisfy human needs from companionship and sport, to uses for food, clothing, and medical use. It ensures the practice of animal husbandry and ensures that all animals used by humans have their basic needs fulfilled in terms of food, shelter, and veterinary care while minimizing stress of the animal.
Organizations like Grey2K USA Worldwide (Grey2K), Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) are ANIMAL RIGHTS organizations. They make themselves appear to be all about animal welfare, but DON’T BE FOOLED.
• Christine Dorchak (Grey2K) is quoted as saying “There is no morally relevant difference between humans, great apes and monkeys” and “monkeys deserve legal rights.”
• Wayne Pacelle (HSUS) is quoted as saying “We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals.”
• Ingrid Newkirk (PETA) is quoted as saying “"Pet ownership is slavery. Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or be entertained by."
• Peter Singer (ALF) is quoted saying "We are not especially 'interested in' animals. Neither of us had ever been inordinately fond of dogs, cats, or horses in the way that many people are. We didn't 'love' animals."
By manipulating and deceiving the public, they are slowly chipping away at your right to utilize, own, and care for animals. They have mastered manipulating the truth into untruth and leading you into believing that untruth is running rampant. They have already negatively impacted animal husbandry, food processing, animal agriculture, the pet industry, animal ownership, hunting & fishing, conservation/breeding programs for endangered species, and greyhound racing. Speak up and get involved. Stay informed so they don’t win.
GREYHOUNDS 101 - THE FACTS:
1. Members of the hound group, greyhounds are in a subset known as sighthounds, which are nature's great hunters of prey by using their keen eyesight.
2. The greyhound anatomy is also aerodynamically built by nature to give quick, enormous bursts of high speed to hunt its prey, which in nature, consists of such vegetable crop destroying wild rodents all the way up to larger predator animals such as coyotes.
3. Their hearts are bigger, their lung capacities larger, and their blood values different than most any other canine breed, making greyhounds sometimes referred to as "the non dog of the dog world."
4. A youthful, active greyhound, by nature's necessity, expends an amazing amount of pent up energy, and then rest and relaxation is necessary. They prefer to bed down in the same small denning manner as is seen in many other canines.
5. Racing bred Greyhounds are rarely, if ever, away from other greyhounds for their entire lives until adoption, so they enjoy and thrive in their pack environments, similar to their ancient wolf relatives in the wild.
6. On the farm and as professional athletes, many of these same natural instincts for high speed chase, pack social roles and manners, and restful denning needs are met with close attention paid to safely mimicking those types of environments .
7. When racing as professional athletes, the sport is highly regulated by the state and onsite Veterinary care is always present, as is a race course that is level and maintained to be free from debris, holes, rocks, and other dangerous objects encountered in the wilderness, and where their natural desire to chase and hunt at high speeds is satisfied by pursuing a fake or stuffed lure.
8. Upon retiring from racing, the North American Greyhound athletes enjoy such a high popularity as pets that there are waiting lists for them among 150+ greyhound specific adoption organizations located throughout the United States and Canada.

Leptospirosis...
The Silent Killer ...
Leptospirosis is a disease caused by infection with Leptospira bacteria. These bacteria can be found worldwide in soil and water. There are many strains of Leptospira bacteria that can cause disease. Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease, which means it can be spread from animals to people. Infection in people can cause flu-like symptoms and can cause liver or kidney disease. In the United States, most cases of human leptospirosis result from recreational activities involving water. Infection resulting from contact with an infected pet is much less common, but it is possible.
Leptospirosis is more common in areas with warm climates and high annual rainfall but it can occur anywhere.
Risk factors for leptospirosis
Dogs are most commonly affected. Leptospirosis in cats is rare and appears to be mild although very little is known about the disease in this species. Common risk factors for leptospirosis in dogs residing in the United States include exposure to or drinking from rivers, lakes or streams; roaming on rural properties (because of exposure to potentially infected wildlife, farm animals, or water sources); exposure to wild animal or farm animal species, even if in the backyard; and contact with rodents or other dogs.
Dogs can become infected and develop leptospirosis if their mucous membranes (or skin with any wound, such as a cut or scrape) come into contact with infected urine, urine-contaminated soil, water, food or bedding; through a bite from an infected animal; by eating infected tissues or carcasses; and rarely, through breeding. It can also be passed through the placenta from the mother dog to the puppies.
Signs of leptospirosis
The signs of leptospirosis in dogs vary. Some infected dogs do not show any signs of illness, some have a mild and transient illness and recover spontaneously, while others develop severe illness and death.
Signs of leptospirosis may include fever, shivering, muscle tenderness, reluctance to move, increased thirst, changes in the frequency or amount of urination, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes), or painful inflammation within the eyes. The disease can cause kidney failure with or without liver failure. Dogs may occasionally develop severe lung disease and have difficulty breathing. Leptospirosis can cause bleeding disorders, which can lead to blood-tinged vomit, urine, stool or saliva; nosebleeds; and pinpoint red spots (which may be visible on the gums and other mucous membranes or on light-colored skin). Affected dogs can also develop swollen legs (from fluid accumulation) or accumulate excess fluid in their chest or abdomen.
Leptospirosis may be suspected based on the exposure history and signs shown by the dog, but many of these signs can also be seen with other diseases. In addition to a physical examination, your veterinarian may recommend a number of other tests such as blood tests, urine tests, radiographs (x-rays), and an ultrasound examination.
Treatment and prevention
Leptospirosis is generally treated with antibiotics and supportive care. When treated early and aggressively, the chances for recovery are good but there is still a risk of permanent residual kidney or liver damage.
Currently available vaccines effectively prevent leptospirosis and protect dogs for at least 12 months. Annual vaccination is recommended for at-risk dogs. Reducing your dog’s exposure to possible sources of the Leptospira bacteria can reduce its chances of infection.
Although an infected pet dog presents a low risk of infection for you and your family, there is still some risk. If your dog has been diagnosed with leptospirosis, take the following precautions to protect yourself:
Administer antibiotics as prescribed by your veterinarian;
Avoid contact with your dog’s urine;
If your dog urinates in your home, quickly clean the area with a household disinfectant and wear gloves to avoid skin contact with the urine;
Encourage your dog to urinate away from standing water or areas where people or other animals will have access;
Wash your hands after handling your pet.
If you are ill or if you have questions about leptospirosis in people, consult your physician. If you are pregnant or immunocompromised (due to medications, cancer treatment, HIV or other conditions), consult your physician for advice.
