Not easy to perform big band music with only nine members but they do a fabulous job! Thanks for making our last night such good fun with great entertainment. The food was lovely too...This page will stay active and if anything is up and coming I will pop it on here but I won't be checking it on a regular basis. So adios au revoir and good night. I bid you farewell and leave you with a taste of the music. X

NO JAZZ IN AUGUST - SUMMER BREAK
Listening to Mosaic Jazz perform the music of Art Blakey! Very cool.
Join us this Sunday for a really great Jazz treat. The perfect way to end off the Manchester Jazz Festival in a great atmosphere, with great food and great music. Featuring: Mosaic Jazz.
A new band for us with an exciting twist and jazz style we don’t get to experience a lot of… Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. One of jazz's most seminal groups, with its origins stretching back to the mid-40s, the group’s catalogue is both extensive and diverse; marrying arrangements of great jazz standards alongside original compositions by the numerous sidemen that Art Blakey took under his wing through the years.
Mosaic Jazz brings together some of the north’s most well-respected jazz musicians alongside some of its most dynamic emerging talents, much in the vein of Blakey’s Messengers, to present a selection of some of the Jazz Messenger’s most celebrated recordings.
£24.95pp - includes buffet style dinner, dessert and coffee/tea.
To book call 0161 835 8903 between 10am and 530pm, or email: [email protected]. Doors from 7pm

Another great night. Aquarius Jazz smoothly swinging tunes from Gershwin to McFly!
February's Jazz Night Sunday the 28th - Featuring Aquarius Jazz...Very popular with us at Club43 and back for a 5th engagement, however it’s been a year since we have enjoyed the swinging sounds of Aquarius Jazz. Made up of four of the country’s very best musicians and performing some of the UK’s finest swing and crooner - style jazz. This is a crooner band, but with a difference. The difference is the band can play. A very talented group who have the chops to play some great jazz. Hedonista Jazz with guest singer Lucy Hope!
Anthony Kinsey and Hedonista Jazz - playing some cool tunes.
Enjoying the many styles of The Amy Roberts and Richard Exall Quintet. Some really cooool jazz tonight!
Well our summer break is over. I hope everyone has a had a great summer. I know the weather wasn't hot enough to be 'summer like', but it was nice to get a break. As there was no Jazz night in August - the next one is September 27th featuring Jeremy Sassoon.
It is already sold out, which is why there isn't a usual posting for it. Thanks to all who have booked. Looking forward to seeing you there and having a good night.
Well this Sunday is a very special Jazz Night! The Swingtime Big Band (in a 9 piece miniature version so they can fit in our little venue). I expect they will be blowing the roof off the joint and I am so sorry to be missing it. I will be in Sunny Spain, but it will be small comfort on Sunday as I booked this band as my favourite choice for the year, and then booked a Holiday at the same time. Talk about bad planning for me, buy great for those of you who will be there. Enjoy!! Take some photos or even some short vids and post for me. Jo
Swinging the night away with the sultry sounds of Suzanne Mott
It is with a sad heart that I post the loss of a very good friend to our little club. Yesterday a wonderful lady - Mrs H lost her battle with Cancer. She was more than a regular customer. She was a friend to a few of us here at the hotel. During Jazz Night this Sunday we will hold a minute of silence in honour of Mrs H.

Our Story
Manchester is steeped in Jazz history…great musicians would come from all over the world to play here in the 50s and 60s, during the hey days of Jazz.
There were two venues that were favoured most by the performers…
The Free Trade Hall; which would play host to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Louie Armstrong, Woody Herman, Count Basie, Miles Davis, and Billie Holiday – these were not just some of the greatest names in jazz, they were the jazz elite!
Then there was…Club43. Created by a man named Eric Scriven, and due to late night licence laws, it was the place to go when you wanted to see great jazz musicians jamming together in a more intimate venue. Often after performing here at the FTH, the backing musicians and even some of the big names would head over to the Club, sometimes just for a late night drink and sometimes to join in and jam with that night’s headliner or house band. Imagine a smoky night club, people crammed elbow to elbow, musicians and audience members alike, watching performers such as Sonny Rollins, Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott just to name a few, jam like only they could.
Now the Manchester jazz scene is being honoured by the recreation of Club43 as a Supper Club on the site of the Free Trade Hall, combining the two historic venues in one homage. On the last Sunday of every month we put on a Jazz Night and serve a buffet created specially for the evening by our chef. Accenting a great night of music in a restaurant with the perfect ambience.
Sadly at the end of 2016 new management decided that due to a change in direction of the hotel and its restaurants, that we would no longer hold Jazz nights at the FTH. After a pretty successful 5 years it seems a shame, because live bands in restaurants and small venues nowadays is getting rarer and rarer, and it especially is a blow to supporting the Jazz scene in Manchester. Maybe one day we will be back. Which is why we ‘hopefully’ keep the page with it’s connections alive.
