This lovely patient wanted some change to superficial skin texture at the chin area due to previous acne scarring.

After a detailed discussion we agreed together to consider ELLANSE which is a filler AND a collagen stimulator.

The before and after is amazing (the scape of the chin is more harmonious with the rest of the face) but the true beauty in ellanse is the collagen stimulation affect as well as the longevity of the filler which will work it’s magic and produce some lovely collagen over the next few months🤫💉🪄

This specific patient was worried about having anti wrinkle treatment because of prior issues (hooding and heaviness to the forehead).😟 obviously we want to look better after aesthetic treatments and definitely not worse 🤔

After a detailed discussion we came up with a plan together. The plan was to treat super cautiously and to top up as needed depended on result. I always say when it comes to anti wrinkle that “u can put more in if there’s too little but u can’t take it out if too much is put in”! That’s why caution is important!

At our review I was super happy 😊 about the result and so was the patient! I’m so glad we didn’t use a higher toxin dose at the start as it was not needed!

I wanted to discuss 2 important topics in this post. Menopause and ageing.

Menopause is a natural occurrence in the majority of women. The key hormonal change (oestrogen reduction) leads to fundamental changes to the face. With less oestrogen, there is less collagen, which leads to a number of problems associated with ageing and the face.

What a lovely treatment result in a lovely patient! This lady really did not want an overly treated frown area. 🤓we treated methodically with accuracy on 2 separate appointments and most importantly we had a PLAN that we were both happy with.

Today we are discussing “top ups”! In my opinion if a patient feels a top up is needed they’re usually right 💯🤗

I prefer topping up until the result is perfect. It’s better to put more in incrementally then a large dose of toxin straight away because “you can put more in if needed but you can’t take it out if too much goes in”🤔🤓😉

I really appreciated the change in this lovely patient.

Notice how the skin appears shinier? Obviously the wrinkles look much less thanks the the treatment and careful injection site 🤓🪄💉

This is a great example of individuality and uniqueness in peoples faces and wrinkling. Everyone has different and unique musculature and the subsequent effect on the skin is also therefore unique.

When I treat wrinkles it is a compromise between medical advise, expectation and individual anatomy.

Let’s go profhilo!

An important part of my job is managing expectations. I normally say that after one profhilo treatment “I wouldn’t expect a huge difference” because 2 treatments a month apart is what I prescribe.

Imagine my shock at seeing this mind blowing change after one treatment 🤯

This lovely patient was over the moon and so was I🤭🤭

The first picture shows the neck immediately after 1 profhilo syringe the small lumps are the profhilo itself. These disappear over 12-24 hours as the product spreads under the skin and does it’s magic 🪄.

Can’t wait to see what happens after the 2nd syringe🤭🤭🤭

Where toxin side effects are about the muscles of the face (and allergy) filler side effects are most commonly due to either volume replacement in the incorrect place or due to the way the body reacts to the filler. Thankfully they are rare and rarer in trained hands 🙋‍♂️

The picture basically shows what I think about when I’m using filler in the face🤓💉! The anatomy of the circulation! This is vital as not knowing the circulation can lead to significant and serious emergencies. I separate the face into three portions (a b and c)to remember all the blood vessels!

Once again side effects can be separated into 2 camps

1) Needle related side effects
2) Filler related side effects

1) Bleeding bruising pain etc as covered previously
2) vascular compromise (blocking a blood vessel) allergy (always a possibility although rare) and granuloma formation more of a long term issue in general.

As requested! Today I wanted to talk a little about wrinkle relaxation injections and some possible issues/side effects🤓💉😉

Straight off the bat I just wanted to say that wrinkle relaxation is a safe and effective treatment in the right hands and in the right patient! Indeed I’ve done hundreds of these treatments for nhs patients and private patients and I have rarely seen major side effects!

I like to breakdown potential side effects into 2 camps
1) Needle related side effects 💉
2) Toxin related side effects🤓

1) needle side effects are things u probably already know eg pain, bruising, redness, swelling at the injection site

2) toxin related side effects include sudden severe issues like allergy which is thankfully rare and asymmetry of relaxation both of which is treatable😊

The picture shows some of the important muscles we have spoke about in recent weeks where toxin may injected. It also shows the complexity of the human face😇

Wrinkle relaxation is a complicated business but it’s still one of my fave treatments!

Any injector should be trained, qualified, insured and able to deal with side effects. After all you would never take your car to a mechanic who has never seen an engine right!?? 🤔🤔🤔

This is a great example of wrinkle relaxation to an important muscle in facial aesthetics called the ORBICULARIS OCULI (The muscle that squeezes your eye shut tight).
The outer area of this muscle, when fully active creates the crows feet many people want treating with toxins.

Lots of chat on my story yesterday some great guesses naming muscles you guys!

In med school I loved anatomy and it’s vital in facial aesthetics. Basically if you know your muscles you can relax wrinkles better because you know how they work and what wrinkles they make!🤓

The answers btw were
A - procerus (draws down the eyebrows and makes a frown)
B - corrugator supercillii (pulls the eyebrows down and inwards)
C - depressor supercilli (thought to move the eyebrows downwards)

Other important muscles in wrinkle relaxation include the frontalis and the orbicularis oculi (I’ll talk about those in future posts if you guys want)💉😉

Knowing anatomy reduces risks of botox related side effects. You can seriously tell bad botox from good (I’m talking about you spock) 😂

The bottom pic shows the effect post treatment! The injection sites, amount of toxin put in and into which muscles is all part of my own technique perfected over literally hundreds of treatments!
