This week our wellbeing our Mental Health and Wellbeing Champions took part in the Glyndwr University Wellbeing Festival. The champions presented a speech about ways to improve wellbeing for students. They asked the audience to consider how much homework students get, especially younger students. There were stakeholders from many organisations in the audience.

Next Friday, 12 July, is charity day at the Alun with lunch extended for activities to raise money for our school charity - Guide Dogs for the Blind. Students will be able to buy an ice cream watch staff netball, compete in 5 a side football, play FIFA or try a range of other stalls. Students are asked to bring change on the day (20p, 50p etc) to ensure they can take part.

Llongyfarchiadau to Rhian, Ava, Scarlett, Freya and Niamh from Y9 who performed on Sat/Sun with Whitton Morris School of Dance and Philharmonic Youth Choir.

There were a range of performances including ballet, tap, modern and musical theatre. After a few months of rehearsal their hard work paid off last weekend.

There will be some tired Y7 Clwyd students today after 2 fun packed days in Y7 camp. Below are some pictures of them on the giant swing, axe throwing and getting stuck in playing laser tag. Today is the turn of Gwent to join the fun.

Day 2 in Y7 camp is the turn up of Clwyd. After a full day of activities they are probably a lot more tired looking now but this is them before they set off from school first thing this morning and getting ready for their first activity

This week is Y7 camp week for our younger Alunites. Yesterday was the turn of Dyfed house, to enjoy their first taste of camp. Axe throwing and big swings were the activities of the day

Year 7 September 2024

A great weekend at Condover Hall for our Y9/10 netball squads. The girls enjoyed some adventure activities and played some great netball. They were an absolute pleasure and a credit to the school and their families. Special thanks to Mrs Whittaker and Mrs Jenkins for accompanying the girls and to Castell Alun for accompanying us.

At the end of last week some of our Y12 students went to Talacre for their Biology field trip looking at the Biology of the sand dunes. A great day out with some really interesting biology studied.

We are very proud of Alunite Mali

Following her outstanding performance at this year’s Live on the Square we are absolutely delighted to have Mali Sigsworth performing for you at this year’s Carnival, Sunday 7th July.

Mali is currently studying towards her ‘A’ Levels with aspirations of attending University next year and working towards a degree in agriculture. Music and performing has always been something that she has enjoyed, currently performing at a grade 8 level in singing. Mali will be on stage 2.00pm (approx) on Kendricks Field, Maes Bodlonfa Park, CH7 1DR

A great day for Alunite Faye who yesterday competed in the Dance World Cup and was crowned World Champion in the Children’s Lyrical Solo!!!! 🎖️🏆🥇🥇🏆🎖️. Wales' first medal of the competition

She also came 6th in the Children’s Show Dance Solo with her modern jazz piece. She has now been invited to the gala to perform again as a champion on Tuesday.

Last Friday was our annual sports day. The competitions continued all day with the whole school decamping to the field for the afternoon for a chance to get together and cheer on our athletic stars. Below are a small selection of photographs from the afternoon that show the great day that was had.

Our Y10 SEREN cohort went to sunny Bangor University last week for a University taster session. A great day out and really nice way to find out about some of their future career possibilities.

Always fancied yourself as a bit of a Paul Hollywood, Alan Sugar, Prue Leith or Mary Berry? We are looking for judges for our Alun School Bake Off/Apprentice mash up for enrichment week. You would need to be free on 4/5th July between about 1.30 and 3pm. We would love to welcome in anyone with a background in the food industry, running your own business or who just like eating cookies to help judge the competition. Last week, some of our sixth formers went to Manchester Met University on a visit. A really informative and enjoyable day in sunny Manchester.

Seiclo Clwyd Ltd in partnership with Flintshire County Council and Mold Leisure Centre will be running a series of cycle training sessions at Mold Leisure Centre on 22nd, 23rd and 24th July
