Rat-a-Tat Designs
I am a furniture painter based in Berkshire. I love to take old pieces of furniture and give them a new lease of life in my own unique style.
I also take commissions, please contact me for more information and quotes.
Ive been a bit quiet on the painting front recently but finally managed to finish this lovely little TV stand! Painted in F&B Manor House Grey it’s all ready for a new home 📺
Making the most of the lovely weather to spring clean and re-organise my workspace. There’s nothing more satisfying than neatly arranged paints is there? Just me? 😂
Can’t wait to get started on some new projects 🤩 🖌 🪑 ☀️
What’s wrong with the before you might ask? Absolutely nothing except they don’t match the table they sit under!
Instead of replacing them the client asked if I could paint them to match the table. I happily obliged and now they will look perfect together, just in time for Christmas! 🎄
Another week, another happy client!
Love these pictures I’ve been sent from a recent commission! The client was redecorating their hallway and wanted to keep the furniture but it didn’t match anymore.
Cue a makeover by Rat-a-Tat Designs and they now look brand new and fit perfectly with the new look 😍
My latest commission was for my daughter! She picked a piece of furniture from my collection and chose the finish and colour and I love it 🤩. What do you think?
The colour is Farrow and Ball Vardo which goes perfectly with the newly painted walls in Farrow and Ball Pale Powder 😍
Check out this newly up-cycled wardrobe 😍.
After decorating the rest of the room it just didn’t fit in anymore but thanks to Rat-a-Tat Designs and the gorgeous colour Worsted from Farrow and Ball it does! Painted using their modern eggshell to give it a more durable finish and lovely mid sheen. What do you think?
So pleased with how this lovely desk turned out. Now back home and ready to be put to good use!
I love it when clients send pictures through of pieces I have done for them in their new home! From the looks of these pictures one little boy seems very happy with his new room and chest of drawers 🥰
Another commission complete! Great colour choice by the client, I loved giving this old piece of furniture a new lease of life!
Prep work all done on my latest commission! This part can often be the most time consuming part of the whole process but so important to ensure the best finish possible.
Finally finished and for sale! This dresser has had quite a transformation. I removed the glass cupboards on the top section to open up the display areas and the top of the base unit has been sanded back to its original wood and lacquered for protection.
The rest has been painted using Farrow and Ball paint in the lovely colour of Plummett.
Drop me a message for more details if you or anyone you know are interested 🙂
Took advantage of the sunshine to get some painting done today! Made progress on an existing project and managed to start on something new!
Hello! I hope everyone is well and staying safe during these very different times. I am so sorry for my lack of updates in recent months however as is the same for everyone lockdown has brought new challenges and meant that I have been unable to work on any new projects.
I was therefore overjoyed to be sent these pictures of a project I finished before lockdown started now in it’s new home! This beautiful dressing table has been passed down through generations and following it’s up-cycle is now pride of place in the bedroom of the original owners great granddaughter!
Last layer of lacquer done on my latest commission ready to be collected this week!
It’s been a while since I’ve shared anything but it has been very busy behind the scenes at Rat-a-Tat Designs since the new year! Here are a few of the pieces I’ve completed recently. It’s not the best picture of the farmhouse table and the legs aren’t on properly however I sold it before I had chance to take any better shots!
Wow - so excited to be featured on the Annie Sloan Great Britain page this week!
Absolutely love these pictures of two commissions I did recently for a customer!
The chest of drawers were painted in a mix of Annie Sloan Svenska Blue and Pure and the wardrobe was painted in Pure. Both have been finished with matt lacquer to give them a more durable finish - ideal for a toddlers room!
New day new grey!
It’s time for the full reveal! What this cabinet lacks in size it definitely makes up for it in style!
It also gave me the chance to try out my new Farrow and Ball colour called Moles Breath (what a name!) and I am so pleased with how it’s turned out! It is currently for sale so please share with anyone who might be interested 🙂.
Sneak peek of my latest project, full reveal soon!
This lovely antique chest has been my project for the summer and what a challenge it has been! The chest needed a lot of prep work before I could even think about painting it and I had to overcome a few obstacles along the way but it is now finished! I am so pleased with how it has turned out, happy Friday everyone!
New day new project! Lots of prep work to be done on this lovely bow fronted chest so I’d better get going!
Making the most of the lovely sunshine and lavender to showcase my latest project!
Kept it simple with this chest of drawers, sanding the top back to the original wood and painting the main unit with Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen. I used Annie Sloan lacquer for the first time applying a layer of gloss lacquer first for extra protection then a layer of matt lacquer on top to provide an effect similar to wax. Love the finish is gives - what do you think?
I’ve just finished upcycling this lovely oval mirror. I normally use dark wax with this colour (Annie Sloan Olive) but tried white wax this time for change. I love how it highlights the detail and gently softens the colour!
This mirror has already been sold but if you like it and want something similar please contact me!
A client recently asked me to renovate their lovely but tired looking dining room chairs. I love that they have chosen to upcycle their chairs rather then buy new ones and really hope they like the transformation!
Its been a quiet few weeks at Rat-a-Tat Designs whilst I worked on a ongoing project so it was great to get stuck in to a mixture of things today! Making the most of my time I was able to do some sanding, painting and waxing!
Another commission finished and ready to go to its new home in a newly renovated cafe!
I normally use fairly neutral colours so when a client ask me to paint a couple of pieces in Annie Sloan Giverny I was very excited! I love how bright and fresh this blue is and will definitely be using it again for future projects! 💙
