Button batteries, in particular big, powerful lithium coin cell batteries, can badly hurt or kill a small child if they swallow one and it gets stuck in their food pipe. They are used in an increasingly wide range of toys, novelty items, gadgets and other everyday objects you’ll find around your home.

Knowing where they are and keeping unsecured batteries out of reach helps keep your children safe. Yet many of us don’t realise just how many are lurking all over our homes.

It’s scary to think about but drowning doesn’t happen like it does in the movies. A drowning child doesn’t splash about or cry for help. They slip quietly under the water, often unnoticed. But, once you understand how and where drowning happens, there are things you can do to prevent it.

Safety at Halloween. Also make sure you buy your costumes from a reputable retailer that has the British Standard Kite Mark as cheap costumes aren’t always fire retardant. Happy Halloween 🎃

The light-up pumpkin and ghost have been recalled due to a serious safety risk where the battery compartment of the product is not adequately secured which can expose the button batteries inside.

Button batteries can badly hurt or kill a child if swallowed.

Please stop using these products immediately and return to the store for a full refund.

And remember, many other Halloween decorations and novelty items are powered by button batteries too. So, always check the battery compartment is adequately secured with a screw or similar fastener to prevent children gaining access.

The new school year is the perfect opportunity to focus on road safety and make sure your children know how to cross the road safely.
