St. Patrick is one of the most famous patron saints of Ireland: According to the legend, he brought Christianity to the island, made the shamrock fashionable and freed Ireland from snakes. The holiday marks St. Patrick’s death and has been observed as a religious holiday in Ireland for over 1500 years.

The holiday has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, drinking and a whole lot of green.

The hygienies is a project under the Enactus student society of Northumbria University Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. The project primarily aims at contributing to reducing period poverty through distribution of sanitary products to females who are struggling to afford them.
We also concern ourselves with issues surrounding menstrual health, menstrual hygiene and education.
This is our own way of making a difference and we’re inviting YOU, to join us in making a difference.

MH Day is a global advocacy platform that promotes good menstrual health and hygiene.

It also brings together non-profits, government agencies, individuals, private sector and media partners to partake and create activities for MH Day.

Mary Kenner was an American inventor most noted for her development of the adjustable sanitary belt (as seen in the image above). In Mary's life as a black female inventor, she faced a lot of racial discrimination. Even causing her patent for the sanitary belt to be prevented for thirty years.

Today, May 17th (Mary's birthday) we remember her brilliant invention and innovations.

To celebrate the fabulous work all project members, advisors and other team members do every year, Enactus Northumbria presents internal awards annually to celebrate the outstanding contribution of different members and congratulate the whole team for all their successes and efforts throughout the year.

This year our project, The Hygienies was awarded with the title of “Most Improved Team”. The Hygienies would like to thank all core members of the project, the extended Enactus Northumbria team, our university business, alumni and external advisors and also Enactus UK for their constant support and guidance throughout the year.

We would also like to congratulate Courtney Rhianna Brown, our Business Management and Marketing Head on being awarded two titles, “Newcomer of the Year” and “Entrepreneurial Spririt Award”. Your work this year has been exceptional and encouraging to all of us and we wish to see you achieve more successes in your future.

We’d also like to congratulate Stephen Walters for being awarded “Business Advisor Recognition Award 2021” and Antoine Senkoff for being awarded “Transformational Leadership Award” for their outstanding work throughout this work.

Lastly, a big congratulations to everyone who is a part of Enactus Northumbria on a successful year!

Our menstrual care packages have officially been delivered to our beneficiaries! Both West End Women and Girls and Smart Works Newcastle received donations of sustainable menstrual products from The Hygienies which will be passed on to people in the Newcastle area deemed at risk of period poverty. Our entrepreneurial thinking has ensured that 10 people will not go without period products for their next cycle. 💜

A huge shout out to The Hygienies team. As well as, A huge thank you to our Newcastle assembly team who had the honours of donating these packages.

This is a huge team effort, and we couldn’t have achieved it without the support of everyone at Enactus Northumbria.

Important announcement!

The Hygienies are due to release our first launch soon! We are focused on doing our bit to end period poverty in our local area, through the distribution of sustainable period products and proper menstrual education.

For every customer box purchased, a donation of personal hygiene products will be made to our incredible beneficiaries. Today, we can confirm that we have successfully received the first range of sustainable and eco-friendly products for both our customer subscription boxes and our beneficiary donation packages!

Those late night Tesco runs are a thing of the past, let us take care of those chores and conveniently (& covid-safely!) deliver your supplies to you!

Choose from a menstrual cup, bamboo pads, or tampons; with some goodies thrown in, all at a super affordable price tag.

We will have more info on how to bag your first box, coming this week! So please, keep an eye out for that. We've worked super hard to pull this together, we're beyond excited to start making impact.

What is Galentine’s Day?

Galentine’s Day is celebrated on Feb 13th each year and celebrates the love you have for your female friends. Whether your friends are single or not, the day entails showering them with LOVE and ATTENTION.

This week we’re talking about period panties!

Period panties are a eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to pads and tampons. They are washable and reusable, meaning they have a smaller environmental footprint. In addition, period panties can be used as backup coverage with tampons and menstrual cups so you don’t have to worry about leakage!
