Over the next 6 weeks, we are introducing Workout Wednesday - don't panic, they are simple exercises to help improve strength and flexibility and this month we will focus on improving hip flexibility. Remember to take things easy, Kim and Mel will share two different levels of exercise each week so listen to your body and do what is appropriate for you. Happy Baby Pose is a gentle and soothing pose that’s great for increasing relaxation and stretching the body. It involves lying on your back and rolling from side to side. The pose is appropriately named “happy baby” because while you’re in this position — lying on your back and holding your feet — you’ll resemble a baby lying happily on its back. As sports therapists we see strong women on a daily basis and are constantly blown away by them. Whether they’re running a marathon, juggling their own businesses, are raising families, it doesn’t matter - each and everyone of them have come to us because they’re taking the time to overcome the challenges their body gives them and that in itself shows their strength and determination, whatever their daily role is. Today we celebrate all women. We are here to support you. Happy International Women’s Day!

Further to the new changes that have come into place with regards to self isolation rules, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our clients for working with us to help keep ourselves and our clients save over the course of the pandemic. That said we would be grateful if you could continue to communicate with us and rearrange appointments if you are unwell, so that we can continue working as safely as possible. We will continue our usual safety and hygiene standards. This will help us to avoid taking time off and help your appointments run smoothly. Face coverings are of course your choice 😊 Thanks!

Shoulder strength exercise
Uneven shoulders? If you’re like most people, then you probably have them and that’s okay and completely normal….no one is perfectly symmetrical! However when asymmetries in our strength and mobility start to impede on our ability to function in life and perform daily tasks this can be an issue and in some cases contribute to pain So here’s another exercise to try if you feel you need them! Which ever side is your DOMINANT side, usually sits LOWER and slightly more forward compared to the opposite side because we use that side AlOT more with our every day tasks ( carrying, lifting, writing, mousing, reaching, scrolling etc) practice the exercise on that dominate side, although it doesn’t harm to do them on both! This exercise is the Single banded “Y” - in a standing position hold your hands in front of you and grip the band. Reach/pull the band directly overhead to form a “Y” position. Slowly lower band back to the starting position keeping the movement controlled. For further help and support with your mobility please contact us via www.kb-sportstherapy.co.uk . . . #shoulderstrength #sportstherapyuk #northampton #sportstherapist #sportsinjuriesexpert #sportsinjuryrehab #sportstherapycommunity #sportsinjuryclinic #sportsinjuryprevention #northamptonshirebusiness

Hip hinge exercise for lower back pain
Do you have lower back pain ? Well one of the most important things to master is the HINGE motion! But what is the hip hinge motion? The hip hinge is a fundamental movement pattern that helps you perform essential tasks such as bending over and picking things up. It’s also required in many strength training movements such as; the deadlift, barbell hyper extension, straight-leg dumbbell deadlift, kettle bell swing and more! The hip hinge exercise can help: • Reduce back pain • Improve balance • Increase range of motion • Create a stronger core So how do you perform the hip hinge? • Stand with your feet hip width apart, toes pointing slightly outward • Place a dowel or a stick vertically on your back. Ensure THREE points of contact; head, upper back and lower back (all along your spine) • Lower your torso so you’re about parallel to the floor and make sure to keep a slight bend in your knee. • Repeat the motion several times Common mistakes we see all the time; • This is NOT a squat! • Do not relax your core • Do not lose contact with the stick/dowel. . . . #sportstherapy #lowerbackpain #backpain #hingemovement #strengthtraining #backstrength #sportsinjuriesexpert #northamptonshire #backache #sportstherapist

Do you have uneven shoulders? If you’re like most people, then yes, you probably do! And that’s okay and completely normal…. no one is perfectly symmetrical! However when asymmetries in our strength and mobility start to impede on our ability to function in life and perform daily tasks this can be an issue and in some cases contribute to pain. So here’s an exercise you can try. Half kneeling wall sweeps + side bend (facing wall). - With your arms make the largest circle possible then try to flatten your chest on the wall, while sliding your hands in the opposite direction . - Then follow with your other hand as you bend sideways through your trunk.
