Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person
Good evening all,
I am taking some time to write to you all and hopefully share some of my knowledge to you. As you will see attached a picture with a lot of information to you all and describing one of the most common problem for people in pain; Osteoarthritis.
Although, you see that is a injury related to bone and involves inflammation, the definition for it is very similar 'this is also know as a common type of arthritis that causes joint pain, stiffness and problems moving. In order to prevent this from happening you will need to have regular massages to keep the blood moving and to circulate it around the body.
However, you will need to have a good workout routine or regime when it come with exercises which is sometimes good to see a sports therapist to guide you through a plan.
I am writing this to hopefully bring more awareness as I have seen too many people lately in agony and a lot of pain due to having a nerve impingement.
What is nerve impingement, also known as pinches nerve ? - A pinches nerve occurs when there is too much pressure is applied to a nerve by the surrounding tissue, such as bone, cartilage, muscle or tendons.
As a result of this it can cause the pain to radiate from the neck into the shoulder and arm (cervical radiculopathy) or pain may radiate into the leg and foot (lumbar radiculopathy or sciatic nerve pain)
Causes - The pressure can be a result of repetitive motions, or may happen from holding your body in one position for long periods (e.g. Keeping elbows bent while sleeping)
Signs and Symptoms - Pain in the area of compression, such as the neck or low back; radiating pain, such as sciatica or radicular pain; numbness or tingling; pins and needle or a burning sensation; weakness, especially with certain activities; the feeling of having a foot or hand "fall asleep". These symptoms can worsen when you try certain movements, such as turning your head or straining your neck.
Where does it occur? - A pinched nerve can occur in many areas throughout the body. The most frequent one that most people will have is known as Sciatica.
Damage from a pinched nerve may be minor or severe. It may cause temporary or long-lasting problems. The earlier you get a diagnosis and treatment for nerve compression the more quicker you will find relief. In some cases, you can't reverse the damage from a pinched nerve but the treatment usually relieved pain and other symptoms.
Nerve compression in your neck or arm can lead to conditions such as: peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome. These can range from minor temporary damage to a more permanent conditions.
Treatment - the longevity of the treatment will depend from person to person and the severity and cause of the nerve compression.. Sometimes all you need is to rest the injured area and avoiding any activities that tends to worsen your symptoms. When it comes to the severe cases you may need to consult a doctor as you may need to remove material that's pression on a nerve (e.g. scar tissue, disc material, pieces of bone). The fallowing treatments can be beneficial: oral corticosteroids; narcotics; steroid injections; physical therapy; splint or surgery.
Please consider having physical therapy first with a Sports Therapist before you go to your GP and start to take any pain relief and steroid injection or even surgery.
Good afternoon,
As some of you might be aware I have moved to London. However, because of some of my regular clients don’t want to move to other therapists I have decided to travel back to Norwich once a month and see everyone. This means that from now on I will have limited spaces and the appointments will happen on a Sunday. To avoid any disappointments please get in touch in advance as I won’t be able to guarantee any availability on the day. I hope everyone else is as understanding and supportive as my regulars. Thank you in advance!
I have availability for 7th May if anyone wants to get booked in please get in touch.
Hello,
I am writing to let everyone know that I am still seeing patients on Saturdays. As I am not working every Saturday there are limited spaces available so to avoid any inconveniences please let me know in advance your favourite date and time. For any new patients I would advice to book in for an hour as I might need to do specific tests depending on what is your main problem or go through some exercises at the end.
Good Afternoon,
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone that has been very understanding with rearranging appointments while I was doing my training to become an Osteomyologist. I can now say that I am an Osteomyologist and Sports Therapist. Also, thank you to everyone that encouraged me throughout my training and believed in me. Thank you !!! 😁🤗
There is one more change I want to address and make everyone aware of. Lately, I have had several people not turning up to their appointment without giving me a reason and when I contacted them they have ignored my message. Leaving me with big gaps in my schedule and taking up appointments where I could of booked other people instead. To avoid this in the future I have decided to ask for 50% deposit when I am booking you in. The prices of the sessions are listed below, along with how much you will be asked to pay for the deposit:
90min deep tissue massage is £70 - deposit £35
60min deep tissue massage is £45 - deposit £22.5
45min deep tissue massage is £40 - deposit £20
30min deep tissue massage is £35 - deposit £17.5
I hope everyone understands and supports my decision. I can not afford to keep booking people in and turn others away because my book is full and on the day have people not turning up.
Hello Everyone,
As part of my treatment sessions at the end of the session most of my patients that I currently see they all get some sort of MET stretching or advice on how they need to perform this correctly and include it within their daily routine. Underneath is some information about MET and what it stands for.
Muscle Energy Techniques (METs) is a form of osteopathic manipulative diagnosis and treatment in which the patient's muscles actively used on request, from a precisely controlled position, in a specific direction, and against a distinctly executed counterforce. When performing an MET stretch, the patient is asked to contract a specific muscle or a muscle group using between 20%-30% of the muscle's capability for 5-15 seconds. They are then asked to repeat the process as often as necessary deemed by the therapist.
Benefits of METs:
- Normalizing joint range rather than improving flexibility - focus of MET is to get the patient to contract the muscle; subsequently causes a relaxation period, allowing greater ROM to be achieved within that specific joint
- Restoring normal tone and hypertonic muscles - physical therapy achieves relaxation in the hypertonic shortened muscles
-Strengthening weak muscles - this is achieved by the contraction that the patient is asked to perform (modify the MET to work the weaker muscles)
-Preparing muscles foe subsequent stretching - focus of MET is to improve the normal ROM of a joint. Therefore, you can use a more forceful approach. Ask patients to contract using anywhere between 40%-70% of the muscle's capability.

Frozen Shoulder which is also known as Adhesive Capsulitis - The shoulder is painful and stiff for months, sometimes years.
Diagnosis: based on the signs, symptoms, physical exam (close attention to arms and shoulders); severity is determined by basic text whih include movement of arm and shoulder; structural problems are determined by x-ray or MRI.
Treatment include: painkillers, exercises (don't keep your shoulder still), contrast of heat/cold, corticosteroid injecion (have adverse effects; further damage - if they're repeated), TEN's (numbing the nerve endings in the spinal cord), physical therapy, shoulder manipulation, shoulder arthroscopy (invasive type of surgery; used in small percentage of cases and depends on the severity of sign and symptoms).
Causes: bands of scar tissue from inside the shoulder capsule, causing it to thicken, swell and tighten. This means there's less space for your upper arm bone in the joint which limits movements.
Stages of Frozen Shoulder anywhere from months to years:
Stage one - 'Freezing' phase, shoulder ache and becomes very painful when reaching out for things. Pain worse at night and when you lie on the affected side. Lasts 2 to 9 months.
Stage two - 'Frozen' phase, shoulder becomes increasingly stiff; pain doesn't usually get worse and may even decrease. Shoulder muscles may start to waste away slightly because they're not being used. Lasts 4 to 12 months.
Stage three - 'Thawing' phase, gradually regain some movement in your shoulder. Pain begins to fade, allthough may come back occasionally as the stiffness eases. Not regain full movement of your shoulder, carry out many more tasks. Last from 6 months to many years.
