As we look forward to 2024, it is only right to have a quick look back at what we managed to achieve in 2023…

Thank you to everybody who has helped our little community thrive this year - we could not have done it without your support, generosity and love of karate.

With gradings, courses and trips already planned, 2024 is surely going to be another wonderful year ☺️🥋💪😃

At the conclusion of the final 2023 junior lesson, Ted was presented with his Shodan certificate.

It has been a pleasure to work each and everyone of them this year, watching them turn in to excellent Karateka and most importantly fine young men 🥋😊

Black Belt Grading Success 🥋🥋

Huge congratulations to Steve, who successfully passed his Nidan (2nd Dan) Black Belt today.

Steve was thoroughly tested on all aspects of his karate, including Bunkai on both his Sentei and Tokui kata. The panel’s decision to pass him was unanimous - a testament to how hard he worked in the lead up to today.

The grading was conducted by Sensei Dan Jones 5th Dan, Darren Abbs 4th Dan, Sharon Hockaday 3rd Dan, Simon West 3rd Dan and Adrian Wise 2nd Dan.

We are delighted to announce that Shotokan Karate Norwich has gained 3 new Shodans and 1 new Nidan🥋

The grading was conducted by Sensei Dan Jones 5th Dan, Darren Abbs 4th Dan, Sharon Hockaday 3rd Dan, Lily Holden 3rd Dan & Adrian Wise 2nd Dan with a unanimous decision easily reached. Each student who tested today has shown the commitment and dedication required to pass their grading at such a high standard.

Congratulations to Kris, who passed his 3rd Kyu grading at the conclusion of last night’s class.

The grading was lead by Sensei Darren Abbs 4th Dan, who was alongside a panel of senior Dan grades. For the past several weeks, Kris has attended a number of private lessons and the supporting Friday classes. His dedication to the process resulted in an outstanding grading, especially his Ippon Kumite against Adrian Sensei. Now a 3rd Kyu Kris can attend the senior adult classes on Tuesdays.

Dan and Neil delivered a class for the 1st Hethersett Cromwell Cub Scouts last week, enabling them to all to achieve their Martial Arts badge.

You never mind volunteering your time for such a wonderfully enthusiast bunch of young people. 🥋😃

Last night we were delighted to host WTKO Chief Instructor Sensei Richard Amos 8th Dan.

We would like to thank Richard Sensei who took time out of his busy international schedule to deliver a wonderful 2 hour class.

The first hour was dedicated to Kihon with the second hour focussed on Bassai Dai - A kata we thought we all knew!

Thank you to everybody who supported the class and we look forward to seeing Sensei again very soon. 🥋😀👌

Day 4 and the WTKO International Summer Camp Completed ✅🥋🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It has been a complete honour to be part of this year’s summer camp. World class tuition by Richard Sensei, John Sensei, Scott Sensei and Yanti Sensei supported by a wealth of knowledge from the other camp Sensei.

It’s been wonderful to catch up with old friends whilst making many new, all who just love karate 🥋

Let’s do it all again next year in Portugal 🇵🇹

Day 3 Completed 🥵✅

Saturday is often the hardest day of the camp with bodies starting to ache after 3 days of training.

A much needed yoga session started the day before 2 classes. Dan worked with Richard Sensei followed by Bruno Sensei with Evert, Jake and Adrian being taught by John Sensei and Bregje Sensei.

Next was very successful Dan Grading with candidates going for Shodan, Nidan and Sandan. Before the final class of the day we had a Q and A session with the senior instructors.

The final sessions of the day were conducted by Scott Sensei (Yondan +) and Richard Sensei (Shodan - Sandan).

The evening is being concluded by the camp dinner.

The day started with a much needed yoga class by Yanti Sensei followed by two sessions before lunch.

Dan was taught by Scott Sensei and JT Sensei with Evert, Adrian and Jake being put through their paces by Richard Sensei and Vilhjalmur Sensei.

The day was concluded by the camp competition.

We had the pleasure of hosting Sensei Neil Cook from last night.

Neil delivered a superb class exploring the kata principles of Bassai Dai via two person drills.

Once all our necks, wrists and shoulders have recovered we look forward to seeing Neil again in the very near future 👌😀🥋

Dan and Katie travelled to Basingstoke to train with Scott Langley Sensei and Ruadhán Mew Sensei - A wonderful 3 hours of intense, hot, sweaty, technical Karate 😃
