Yesterday we returned to league action where we were once again on our travels, this time facing West Row Gunners, in the hope of gaining our third successive league win.
Out from last week were Ahkeim Stone, João Cruz, Mike Grayson, Damon Bean, Ben Howes-Gray and stand-in keeper Tom Hill. Back into the side were skipper Keiran Leggett, Luke Hall, Lewis Daniels, Perri Grady, Marcus Holt and Horsham number 1 Mikey Ward.
West Row got the game underway and although fairly evenly contested it was the hosts who seemed to have the lion's share of possession but without really causing the visitors too many issues as they held their shape and pressed well.
It wasn't long before Horsham began to grow into the game and looked the most likely when going forward with things still fairly even in the early exchanges.
Horsham nearly took the lead on 13 minutes when Lewi Brighton picked out Jack Parnell on the edge of the area but his half volley was lashed narrowly wide.
Following the spell of pressure against the hosts a major chance to open the scoring went begging when Jake McKees effort was parried into the path of Marcus Holt centre of the goal with only a tap in from yards out but somehow the forward man managed to slice the ball up into the air (conflicting shouts of whether the ball had actually crossed the line followed) before it was swept away.
There was a response from West Row who managed to get down the right hand side a couple of times and into the box but once again without causing the defence too much distress, as well as a turn and shot on the edge of the box that bounced awkwardly before Mikey Ward but he managed to save well and push it wide.
On 21 minutes Lewi Brighton found that his first time effort was scooper high and wild into the air before nearly dropping in to the goal but instead finding the cross bar and out for a goal kick.
Horsham finally broke the deadlock just before half time when a lovely cross from Levi Lambert to pick out the run of Marcus Holt caused all sorts of confusion between the West Row keeper and his defenders resulting in the ball being inadvertently poked home by the West Row defender in desperation to clear. 1-0 Horsham.
HT: West Row 0 - 1 Horsham
Horsham kicked off the second half in the same positive fashion that they finished the first. Within 5 minutes it was 2-0 to the visitors when Kieron Goreham, now playing down the left, beat his fullback before delivering a whipped low cross into the box that found Marcus Holt who's superb deft touched helped directed the ball into the far bottom corner to finish off a lovely move.
Chris Parnell >
Perri Grady <
George Poll >
Lewi Brighton <
Marcus Holt almost added another to his tally when he broke through one on one with the keeper but his chipped effort landed on top of the cross bar.
Having got the two goal cushion Horsham decided to freshen up with two subs, however not long after coming on George Poll suffered a nasty twist of the ankle before having to be helped off, hoping it's nothing too serious 🙏... Lewi Brighton was reintroduced.
Luke Hall >
Tarren Denton <
With 25 to go West Row had begun to take a grip of possession as they looked to half the deficit while Horsham now looked their most vulnerable during stage than any other during the game. Despite this, Luke Hall did manage to play a ball over the top in which Marcus Holt who looked to have timed his run to perfection before taking the ball down lovely to then finish, however, it was somehow ruled out for offside 🤷♂️🤦 ...say no more 🫣
Perri Grady >
Lewis Daniels <
Horsham extended their lead to 3 when Marcus Holt was played in down the right with all the time in the world to pick out Kieron Goreham in the box who took a touch to steady himself before smashing the ball into the roof of the net for his second of the game.
Lewis Daniels >
Jack Parnell <
Despite conceding West Row did manage to keep spells of possession and knocked the ball fairly well, but all Infront of the Horsham rearguard. For all their good play on the ball
It was actually a nothing ball that managed to bounce between the Horsham lines before finding the West Row attacker who managed to hold off Jake McKee and tuck the ball past Mikey Ward to peg one back for 1-3.
Not long after and a little against the run of play Kieron Goreham slipped in Luke Hall down the left who managed to ride the challenge of the on rushing defender before laying it off to Marcus Holt who's effort was parried back into the path of Luke Hall who passed it into the corner between Goalkeeper and defender to restore the hosts 3 goal lead for 1-4 Horsham
Ascendency was back with Horsham once more, with the next chance coming when Luke Hall managed to close down the centre back to win the ball but confusion between himself and Marcus Holt resulted in neither finishing the opportunity.
Horsham finished off the scoring when Lewis Daniels played the ball between two West Row defenders and into the path of Kieron Goreham who turned and lashed his effort for 5-1 to Horsham.
FT: West Row 1 - 5 Horsham
Summary
A really good performances from the boys today who were efficient in their play and played to their strengths. A shout out to some really good individual performances too for Holty, Vision and Lewi Brighton who was superb, as well as Goreham who really turned on in the second half with an assist and 2 goals...however is was JP who was awarded man of the match for his tireless efforts and performance in midfield before being replaced late on 👏
Next week we are finally back at home in league action where we one again take on West Row Gunner for the second time in as many weeks, looking for another 3 points!
KICK OFF 15:00 and as always any and all support is welcome 💙
