Bluebird Deaf Water Ski Club
Welcome to the Bluebird Deaf Water Ski Club, a voluntary club based in Norwich, Norfolk. U.K.
The day ended with the medal ceremony and awarding of personal best prizes, of which there were a lot in the younger age categories, as well as a certain British Trick Record being broken! It was also an opportunity to thank all the officials, judges and drivers and all the spectators, who braved the torrential downpours with good humour and hung on to the gazebo for dear life when it almost took off into the sky like a giant balloon π Finally, a huge, gigantic thank you goes out to all our amazing members without whom the Competition would not have been possible and whilst there are too many to name we hope you know how much your hard work over the past months/weeks/days, as well as on the day itself is genuinely appreciated - you all deserve medals! π€©ποΈπ€©
The event ended with some fantastic jumping across all of the age categories. Great determination and fearlessness was displayed by everyone taking part, all watched over by the rescue boat crew, who were ready to dive in at a momentβs notice, but mostly just enjoyed the close-up view of the action! ππΆπ
The three rounds of trick were a perfect example of the crazy summer weather (I use the term βsummerβ very loosely!) but the show went on regardless and everyone was thrilled to watch Mike Hazelwood set an amazing new British Trick Record on our lake !!! βοΈ π₯π
The Dyl Rowlandβs Memorial Multi Competition took place at the Club on Saturday when it really was a case of all four seasons in one day!?! We didnβt let a little thing like the British weather get in the way of a great competition though, starting with three exciting rounds of slalom ππ€ π₯ΆπͺοΈβοΈπ¦οΈπ©οΈβοΈπ
Is it a bird, is it a plane (actually itβs both), plus some baby geese, a final tally of 8 ducklings, pretty much all of our doggy members and Layla showing off her walking skills and enjoying some quality daddy time making daisy chains !?! βοΈ πͺΏ π¦ π πΆ πΈπ
Back to the skiing and miraculously the sun was still shining and the orderly queue was still waiting patiently, but it didnβt really matter when the weather was so amazing ! π
Mixing it up on a gorgeous sunny Saturday afternoon, some of our wakeboarding members; Flo, Tom, Steve and Mark took to the water with a flourish !?! πππ€©
Saturday morning got off to an early(ish) start with Malcom sweeping the jetty and Gary doing the obligatory pre-skiing circuits of the lake before the real skiing (and trick) got underway, with an orderly queue forming on the Clubhouse patio !?! π§Ήπ€ πππ€ π
Lots more skiing continued throughout the afternoon, but we had work to do at home, so here are just some random doggy/ducky shots to round things off !?! πΆπ₯π¦
There is nothing like keeping it in the family, just ask Megan, Alasdair and Rod (Rob is included as an honorary member) !?! π
One of our youngest members, Lily, got to carry out her observing duties for Gary (supported by her mum, Lucy) on one of the nicest days on the lake so far this year! Meanwhile, Josh enjoyed a birthday ski with his dad, Davey and Scott just celebrated purchasing a new wetsuit - any excuse to get out on the water in the gorgeous sunshine, although it was also Garyβs birthday on Wednesday!?! πΆππππ
Thank you to Friends of Tournament for our Jill Howard Legacy Fund grant to upgrade our jump camera equipment!
FoT ANNOUNCES FIRST TECHNICAL GRANTS FROM THE JHLF
The four Clubs who will each receive Β£500 from the inaugural JHLF Grants are Town Loch, Denham, Cirencester and Bluebird Deaf.
In each case the money will be used to upgrade their Technical kit required to hold Competitions. All are holding a Normal Homologation or Ranking List event later this year after a number of years without such events. The exception is Bluebird Deaf who make a lot of effort to run at least one RL event every year.
We wish them luck and hopefully with the help of the grants will see more events at these clubs
One of our club members has written an excellent article in the most recent edition of the British Water Ski & Wakeboard magazine as a tribute to both Arthur W Herring and Harry Wooldridge

And finallyβ¦..bluebells, dandelions, ducklings and dogs πͺ»πΌπ₯ πΆ πΎ
Marion and Emma had a ski-off on jump skis, whilst Simon just had a familiarisation session and Anny stuck to good old slalomπ After a close encounter with an errant branch that attacked both Gary and Davey, revenge was theirs and Sue just skied through the whole thing completely oblivious to it all, as was James !?! πͺππ
Flo, Mark and Steve switched things up with a bit of wakeboarding and Alasdair did a bit of tricking just to keep things interesting π§
Rod started the day with a cheeky jump and landed a respectable 3 out 4 and then did a convincing impersonation of either Freddie Kruger, or an ancient alien π½ Meanwhile back on earth, Angie, Jerry and Gary made the most of the morning sunshine ππ€ π
We are holding an SBD2 course with the theory section on Wednesday 17th April starting at 6pm at Bluebird Deaf Water Ski Club.
And the practical test on Tuesday 23rd April.
If you are interested in attending the course please email [email protected]
And finally, new baby duckies (I count 16 in total - poor mummy π¦) and the immaculately behaved βrat packβ on observer duties!?! πΆπ
Congratulations to our newest member Sam who dropped a ski and continued the length of the lake, not once, not twice, not even three, or four, or five times, but on each and every run! π Sue, Jerry and Gary also took to the water on a day that the temperature did not reach 23c as promised, but was definitely as windy as had been forecast- Storm Kathleen anyone ?!?π₯οΈπͺοΈπ¨π Sam Duvall
Angie started her Birthday celebrations a day early with a rather blustery ski, as did Scott, whilst Rod and Alasdair opted for a trick instead, much to delight of little Layla Rowlands! π₯³πΆπ
And finallyβ¦.. a few shots for the nature lovers out there and could that be the Costessey Pits own mysterious water creature ?!? π¦’πͺΏπ£πΆπ
The fun continued with a bit of wakeboarding with Flo and Mark alongside a bit more skiing and tricking and with big grins all round !?! πππππ
What a difference a day makes with the weather today finally being kind to us; warm-check, sunny-check, not windy-check. The newly painted and waxed jump was finally able to be moved to itβs rightful place for Rod to then put it to the test and our other members just enjoyed the gorgeous Spring weather !?!π€ ππ
It was lovely to be back on the water on Good Friday (even though we have been at it for a few weeks now), although some were more excited than others !?! πΆπΆπΆπ
