Professional Care Workers' Week 2024

Coffee mornings and other events have been taking place throughout many of our offices this week and staff have been invited to join in with various activities, or to just call in and grab a coffee in their break..

In celebration of this special week and the ongoing work that our fabulous Care and Support Workers do each day, we've committed to celebrating this special week each year.

In celebration of all of our' Care & Support Workers', there's lots of events and activities taking place throughout our various offices this week, which staff have been invited to join in and have some fun...

'Professional Care Workers' Week' 2024

A national celebration of the work that care workers do, and an opportunity to say a huge 'thankyou' to each and every one of them, 'Professional Care Workers' Week' runs next week, between 16th & 20th of September.

We've been preparing and planning events to take place throughout our various offices as we want to join in and celebrate the fantastic job that both they, and support workers do, and we've already added 'Professional Care Workers' Week' to our annual calendar of events for next year.

Some of our activities kicked off earlier this week, with a coffee morning held at our Choices Homecare (Oldham) office, please find a few of their pics included, both staff and a service user who was invited along had a lovely time and they can't wait for the next event they put on...

We look forward to being able to post details of more events happening throughout next week and in the meantime, we extend a 'REALLY HUGE THANKYOU' to our staff for all of their hard work - THANK YOU!

Coffee & Cakes in Oldham yesterday!

Oldham office put on a coffee morning for care workers yesterday, an early celebration to support 'Professiional Care Workers' Week' which takes place next week from 16th - 20th September...

We thought people might like to see some of their pics, everyone who attended said they'd had a lovely time and the coffee morning also made a massive difference to a service user who joined in; this was the first time he'd been out since covid hit and he was over the moon with being able to attend. The gentleman also had some fabulous stories to tell, of how he used to bake and make his own bread, and a wealth of knowledge about the Oldham area which he was telling everyone about. Lynn (Registered Manager) called the gentleman following the event and he told her how nice it was to be with people and not stuck at home and was asking if he can come again - It goes without saying that the gentleman will be invited to the next event...

Huge thanks to all those who supported with baking cakes and preparation (Alison Gaskil, Hanna Benson, Nicola Jackson, Carmel Davies, Jenny Roberts, Angela Bunner and Amy Joan Ball), a fabulous day was had by all and there was even an attendee from Oldham council, who came along and joined in this celebration of the fantastic work that all of our care workers do... Lynn and her team are now looking forward to arranging their next event...

Mina (Care Worker from our Oldham team) received a lovely thank you card from one of our service users the other day... We thought this was lovely and we're very proud to have Mina on our team!

Following her recent 'Highly Commended' recognition at the National Learning Disability & Autism Awards ceremony last month (and our previous posts), Ehinor (from our Choices Homecare service in Oldham, formerly known as Safe Hands Support), got in touch to express her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported her on her incredible journey so far...

From those who nominated her, to all the office staff here at Choices Home Care and the Optimo Care Group, as well as the residents themselves, who she says inspire her on a daily basis; Eyinor wanted to let all those who've been involved know that she is so grateful for all the unwavering support and encouragement she has received and she wanted to send her thanks to everyone.

Thanks for all of your hard work too Ehinor, and a huge 'thankyou' to all of our team members, for the fantastic job that they continue to do!

There was more special recognition for our attendees of last Fridays 'National Disabilities and Autism Awards'!

Amongst finalists, were Gabriel Oni-Femi, who represented service user Craig's team (of Stepping Stones Services); they received a nomination for the 'Autism Practice Award'. Linda Ekobay, also of Stepping Stones, received a nomination for the 'Front Line Leader Award' but was unable to attend the ceremony on the evening.

Also nominated was Ehinor Ayokhai, who attended the ceremony with her husband and was nominated for the 'National Learning Disabilities and Autism Award'. Ehinor works with our Choices Homecare service in Oldham.

We were so pleased to announce that all of the above nominees were 'Highly Commended' on the night and we'd like to congratulate Gabriel (and the whole of Craig's team), Ehinor and Linda upon receiving this very special recognition.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Barnsley visited our Barnsley premises yesterday and cut the ribbon to officially relaunch our domiciliary homecare service as ‘Choices Homecare’ (formerly known as TLC Homecare in Barnsley).

Met by our CEO Richard Walker, the Mayor and Mayoress were invited on a walkabout to meet and chat with members of staff from all departments, they enjoyed a light buffet with both staff from the office, and community, who joined in to help us celebrate…

We were so excited to announce that all of our domiciliary homecare services (covering South and West Yorkshire and the North West) were being rebranded as Choices Homecare, earlier in the month, unifying our services under one inclusive identity:

Our Leadership Development Programme!

Following our most recent staff survey we launched a brand new initiative throughout the Optimo Care Group, called our 'Leadership Development Programme’. A course aimed at enhancing the skills and capabilities of our dedicated staff members, it underscores our commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth across our organisation...

The staff survey revealed a strong desire for comprehensive personal and professional development opportunities and our Executive Board team green-lit the development of a 'Learning Academy', of which the 'Leadership Development Programme' is the first element to be rolled out; it's design is aimed to provide Registered Managers with a structured pathway for career advancement and personal growth.

Starting in March, this month's is the fourth module of ten in the course, and we hope our team of Registered Managers enjoy their session today!
