The green is taking over. I’m happier, it’s feeling more balanced.
Playing around with composition and colour, trying to find direction with this painting. It just isn’t working yet, which is frustrating!
I didn’t like the stylised approach, it didn’t feel right, so I’m embracing a more expressive response to the paint. I feel much more comfortable. It’s far from finished, but it feels like a turning point.
Really fantastic to receive a copy of my most recent publication. Myself and .hall have a chapter in this wonderful book about rethinking arts based research.
I’m going back and forth about more or less orange. I’m thinking the second image is more balanced.
What do you think?
Today I have mostly been playing around with tonal ranges
An alternative version of Pink Hill is underway.
Getting ready to start one of my largest paintings yet!
This week I’m on leave and I’m spending the week alternating between Wimbledon, making art and walking.
It’s the perfect opportunity to stretch some canvases, and these frames having been waiting in the wings for months!
Sitting in my studio, I’m reflecting on how much I need times like this to stop and stare.
My obsession with pink continues with this work in progress aptly named Pink Hill.
I’m really happy with how this is turning out. You can tell it was a scorching day
Close ups of my current painting. I’m a firm believer that pink goes with everything, and I’m particularly loving the pops of red and pink against the green.
On the way to Sibford Ferris
I’m really enjoying this piece - there’s something about the composition.
Starting a new painting

Monarch’s Way is finished!
We walk this old footpath a lot. It’s the route that King Charles II took to flee the Roundheads after he was defeated at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. Obviously we’ve sampled plenty of ale from the various pubs named after him along the way!
I’m taking a break from Monarch’s Way to work on a smaller sketch based on last week’s walk.
This is about half way between Blockley and Longborough as the crow flies.
It’s a bit more stylised than my normal approach, but the shapes created by the landscape invited it.
Monarch’s Way is slowly getting there. I’m happier with the trees
Another layer, another colour palette
