A detail from my latest commission, including the torn edge of the paper. I’m a fan of float mounting finished drawings rather than cropping them with window mounts. When something is made by hand I always think it a shame to cover over.
Nick who first commissioned me to draw this piece looking as cool and calm as I’ve always known him too be. Check out the neck on that sweater too!
Di , who I’ve known for years and the matriarch of the family has always been very naturally beautiful, It was just a matter of trying to convey that on paper!
Another warm and sunny weekend is upon us 🌞
Little Owen was a pleasure to work on during this last commission. His features came naturally and I had to pull myself away from overworking his portrait. Rendering the little details in his hair comprised some of my favourite time working on this piece.
I was clearly told I would remain a bedroom artist by a course leader back in 2008. It hurt a little. I may have migrated to the kitchen and sometimes the cabin at the end of the garden but essentially they were right and to tell the truth I’m now kind of proud of that.
It’s a bank holiday Monday in the UK and after a sunny weekend pottering in the garden (I planted an Acer tree which I’m very excited about!) the rain has set back in. A good opportunity to introduce the star of my recent commission, Lucy. She has been with the family for a long time and it was VITAL to capture her the best I could for this work.
Please enjoy and feel free to share with any fellow pet lovers.
Alex from my recent commissioned work was one of the portrait drawings that came easiest when beginning. With some portraits you work at them more to realise the likeness but this drawing rolled off the pencil as it were. I was keen to not overwork either, holding back at times when I wanted to add in more detail. Hope you enjoy.
God damn it’s cold outside! Another great life class last night working on my draughtsmanship and trying as ever to let loose a little. A lifelong battle that is. Hope you enjoy and keep those mittens on tight!
A good evening spent life drawing yesterday. It never fails to blow away some of the winter blues too. I was pleased with how the second sketch came out. I'd love to hear what you guys think.
Drawn over 6 months months in between full time work and weekend teaching (life’s tough hey!) I’m really happy to show off my latest artwork.
Measuring just 92 mm’s H x 283 mm’s W, this piece was commissioned to celebrate a special occasion. The brief was to create a unique piece that would capture the families home, crystallizing a time in their lives as their family began to grow.
It was such a joy both personally and professionally to hear the work went down a storm with the family and as I take a quick breather I can’t wait to get going on the next commission for another family close to my heart.
Please like and share to anyone you think might be interested in commissioning an original artwork of their own. It would be hugely appreciated! 👍🏻
A life drawing I’ve been working on in between the recently cold snaps. University of Oxford’s Divinity School in all it’s crazy detail. A work in progress using pen on paper.

Born and raised in Oxford, England I have always held a fervent passion for creating painted and drawn imagery. On completing a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at Distinction Level and a 2.1 BA (HONS) Degree in Illustration I went on to spend nearly 7 years working as an Assistant to the Artist Damien Hirst on the North Coast of Devon. Now back based in my home city of Oxford I divide my time between work as the Senior Exhibitions Technician at the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford and as a self employed Artist, taking on commissioned Painting and Drawing.
