As UNICEF spokesperson James Elder said yesterday "the level of indifference towards civilians and children is unprecedented" and "attacks are merciless" and "keep coming" counting at least a hundred in the night. Gaza's population is 2.3 million. Most of Gaza is in the south and in Khan Unis - in the already highly densely built area with the bombs "it is almost impossible not to hit something or someone". The streets are chaotic and there is widespread panic and confusion.

UNICED says so called safe zones are illegal under international humanitarian law if there are no services (protection, water, food, medicine). 100s of 1000s of people are being given a patch of dirt with nothing. "These [safe] zones will becomes zones of death" due to disease and lack of any services. There is UNICEF says a false message being conveyed that people can be safe from bombardment.

Oxford UK Gaza health vigil today. There are now 254 health workers killed and rising -physicians, nurses, midwives, physios, pharmacists, microbiologists, paramedics and more. So wrong and tragic and some of those who were killed did their training in Oxford. And a strong tradition of Oxford medics going for visits to Gaza hospitals. Why is the UK, US and others silent in their complicity when this is happening before our eyes -an average of 5 health workers killed every day one as we spoke. Permanent

So much to say but the scale of destruction in Gaza is horrific and we are only seeing little bits of footage now, including the scale of destruction of and around Al Shifa hospital, and how babies were left to die in Nasser hospital when staff were forced to flee. And yet we are expected to believe what we are told that every effort is made to protect civilians including way more than 6000 children! It is so unbelievable and arrogant, and complicit, especially most western leaders, do nothing to stop this onslaught, now in clear evidence in the West Bank as well. Whatever massacre happened on Oct 7 there is no moral or legal justification for this mass slaughter and limitless destruction.

Gaza looks like THE APOCALYPSE. I triple DARE you to look at this and try to say that “Israel tries very hard not to kill civilians” as Elon Musk shamefully said this morning. The moment I hear someone say that I know 1 of 3 things. Or a combination of them. ⁣ ⁣ 1. You are willfully lying to support genocide. ⁣ ⁣ 2. You live in such a bubble that you somehow had no idea that this is what Israel did to most of Gaza.⁣ ⁣ 3. You don’t actually know the legal definitions of genocide and ethnic cleansing and war crimes.

We have not been able to visit Turkey since the earthquake in February 2023 where there is still so much trauma, and we are in the middle of a magic tuition programme in Jordan, amongst other things, and last visited in June 2023. Gaza tragedies preocuppy currently and it may be that some of these funds are diverted to working in Gaza.

Gaza protest in London yesterday. In week 7 we are still calling for a ceasefire but now also rejecting pauses (which nourish people and then kill them). We joined the large health block for some of the time, reminding decent people that targeting hospitals is illegal. With at least 13000 dead including at least 5500 (up to 7000) children dead, most of the 37 hospitals not functioning, and half the population displaced, the urgent need for a lasting ceasefire is obvious.

“Gaza is the world’s most dangerous place to be a child”. says UNICEF . The numbers keep rising with the UN saying 14000 people are now killed and 40% are children in the “Graveyard for Children”. Here is a grave without names, being dug in Gaza (thanks Ayoub Tachta). Meanwhile UNICEF also says 22 out of the 36 hospitals in Gaza are no longer functioning. Since when didcthis become decent?

Our core activity is performing magic for vulnerable children and families, normally refugees or in UK asylum seekers also. This time we performed for a wonderful refugee women’s group thanks to . These women were from Syria, Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq and elsewhere and all had experienced the trauma of war and conflict. It has to be said that our focus in recent weeks has been on the horrors of Gaza and engaging on related campaigns. But of course we are not the only ones: “What a joy and great pleasure to have Magic for Smiles. The attendees truly appreciated and enjoyed the moments ‘it took away our worries about the war and personal issues and for an hour we felt at peace’”.

We all have the ghastly war in Gaza at the forefront of our minds when somehow and unbelievably bombing and killing kids (over 7000) has become decent and the new normal. Hopefully, the show eased the burden on these refugee women a tiny bit.

This is not our usual message. There are no words for the disgust one sees at the mass slaughter of beautiful children in Gaza. However this tragedy started in its brutal way, there is no justification whatsoever it is arrogant and inhumane and not in anyone’s interest. On UN Childrens Day themed "Every Right Every Child", we mourn the outrageous killing of over 5000 children - that's well over 100 every day - and many under the rubble caused by Israeli bombs. This in addition to the Israeli children killed or abducted on October 7th. Al Rantisi hospital - the only one for children in Gaza - is evacuated and the children's cancer centre is closed. Dr Ghassan has now left Al Ahli hospital the last functioning hospital in Gaza city as the hospital shook from Israeli tanks and there were no more anaesthetics, and fled 5 hours on foot to Nuseirat refugee camp in Central Gaza. He said "leaving 500 wounded (including children) knowing that there is nothing left for you to be able to do for them, it's just the most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to do" (Reuters Nov 17).

How can Israel continue - as it has always done during the Occupation but especially now - to operate above the law in such an inhumane way collectively punishing and slaughtering over 10000 including over 4000 children. This mass slaughter is off the scale, is ineffective as a form of revenge if that is what it is, and just breeds tomorrow's violence.
Surely surely it must stop NOW.

Fuel must be delivered to Gaza. No fuel means no generators which means no electricity which means no incubators for babies now subject to danger and infections therefore in Shifa hospital -leave alone fuel for deliveries of aid. Fuel including in UN depots has basically run out. The whole situation is so disproportionate, inhumane, cruel and ghastly with bloody patients, often children, and surgeons frequently on the hospital floors, and over a million displaced and forced to move south by foot with bags and in hot sun and body parts on the roadside. The biggest march ever since the Gaza war began - yesterday in London. Great family atmosphere. It’s hard to believe how much air time and energy was used prior to the march debating whether to proceed. Already over 4000 children have been killed leaving behind at the very best (if anything) traumatised siblings and families. And around 10000 people killed and families houses and infrastructure destroyed in an instant, and now hospitals are even attacked. What happened in Israel on Oct 7 was ghastly and is condemned. But nothing justifies mass slaughter and destruction happening NOW along with ongoing collective punishment denying ordinary people including children the basics for living. Meanwhile political leaders fail us all. Ceasefire Now!

Still pics from the Gaza protest in London yesterday demanding a Ceasefire Now. How many more children have to die - already around 3000 have been killed out of at least 7000 people have been killed. Figures no longer matter and bombing children is so obviously wrong. And humanitarian law protecting all innocent civilians and collective punishment (with the list of denied items getting longer the latest being communication) outlaws any of this outrageous behaviour, with western governments including the complicit UK giving the greenight to Israel. Imagine those poor civilians and including journalists and aid workers suffering so under these conditions.

Magic in East London in a town hall for hostel asylum seekers from Iran, Albania, Morocco, Honduras and El Salvador. Most people have stayed 2 years in that unpleasant hostel so it was good to have the show in a local town hall. Kids and adults loved the show and it was also good for them to get out! And a distraction from the awful Gaza war. Sincere thanks to Care4Calais for organising this event over many weeks.

Thanks to for this post. Aid allowed in yeterday is a drop in the ocean and incomplete. Collective punishment is happening in Gazs (the blockade has been in place since 2006 only tightened to 100% after the Oct 7 tragedy) and as the UN says is illegal. It must stop. Demand ceasefire now and stop this madness where over 1000 children have been killed in Gaza, and many in Israel on Oct 7

Over 500 children have been killed in Gaza who number over a million in Gaza 2.3 million population. The suffering is unimaginable and the worst is yet to come. It can’t be right meeting brutality with more brutality and such extreme collective punishment effectively on civilians. And it can’t be right that the ordered evacuation to nowhere is simply bombed and the Rafah crossing is bombed as civilians jostle to try and flee to Egypt. May this tragedy at least be the turning point addressing the root causes in the Israeli- Palestine conflict which has prioritised victory over the last 75 years.

Day out for refugee families on the beach and with magic! What could be better - although the kids were so excited they kept having to be asked to retreat back from the performance area!

Lots of refugee families there from Syria and Afghanistan via Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees one of the two charities the Mayor’s office supports and with whom we did a wonderful fundraising show in 2020.
