Stages to decorative mulching.
1. Remove w**ds (especially deep-rooted perennials)
2. Rake and level area
3. Apply layer of compacted mulch & then softer top coat layer.

Say no to temporary fix ‘w**d-proof‘ fabrics that suffocate the ground (w**d seeds blow in from above anyway)

Depending on the type of mulch used, there are many benefits of mulching including:
Helps to retain moisture, easier to remove w**ds without breaking stems, reduce watering, suppress w**ds, improve soil organic matter, provide nutrients, deter some pests, warm up soil in spring, protect plant roots from extreme hot/cold temperature, encourage beneficial soil organism, provide a barrier for edible crops coming into contact with soil, give a decorative finish.

Are you paying the council or a waste service to take away your nutritious garden waste? Did you know they processes it and sell it as compost locally.
With the help of a top spec shredder like my Prof6 which produces a fine shed (and processing branches up to 4” diameter.)
You can either set up your own composting bays or directly use the shredded green waste as a w**d suppressant or top dressing.. and no more expensive waste disposal charges.
(Research has shown that leaching green waste such as conifer or laurel only effects the first couple of inches of your soil, so no stress there.) 🌱

A Laurel hedge ‘severe’ reduction I undertook. 🌱
I removed about 1000 tons of wood and chopped at least 50meters off of the top 🤥

We were concerned high pressure washing would rip up this older mossy driveway; so a few of hours scrubbing and a low pressure wash did the business 💪🌱

A wonderful customer’s 😇 inherited ‘lawn’ had always had issues due to shade/orientation. They decided to go for a full renovation with a slight increase in drainage and a suitable shade tolerant turf (supplied by South Devon Turf ).
Needless to say; they are overjoyed with the end result and have invited me back to photograph their garden in summer when the lawn is established and the ancient hawthorn hedge is in flower (which is quite the sight for sore eyes). 🌱
