Following on from our FAQ about walking routes last week, we specifically get asked a lot about how much time to allow to walk to the rowing lake at Thorpe Meadows from Ferry Meadows. It all depends on your personal pace of course. If you're up for a power walk, allowing at least 30 minutes should be sufficient but if you're just after a gentle stroll, allowing at least an hour is recommended. We love meeting all of our lovely visitors who pop into the visitor centre and farm shop to say hello - whether it's their first visit or 100th visit. Something we regularly get asked is how long does it take to walk around the Park? The answer is very dependent on the route you wish to take, how much time you have available to spend with us and your walking ability. Some routes may take 30 minutes whilst others take multiple hours; some routes are on flat, paved footpaths whilst others might be a little more higgledy piggledy under foot. If you need some guidance or inspiration for your next walk, we have a selection of leaflets with various walking routes around the Park for you to take away for FREE available in the visitor centre. Or you can simply ask one of our lovely staff at the visitor centre for a route they'd recommend. We also run social walking groups twice a month if you'd like to explore the park further, with the added bonus of having a park ranger as a guide. We know we have lots of budding photographers and content creators who enjoy capturing content when they visit the park, and we often get asked about the use of drones. Unfortunately, we do not allow visitors to use drones in and around the park. This includes all of Nene Park's land: Ferry Meadows, Orton Meadows, Orton Mere, Thorpe Meadows, Woodston Reach and the Rural Estate. Whilst we want our visitors to have the most enjoyable time when they visit the park, the safety and privacy of our visitors, staff and wildlife comes first. We have a few key staff who are specially trained to operate drones and as such you may see one flying high in the sky from time to time but this is for the purposes of surveying and park management and very occasional promotional work only. We often get asked questions about the car park at Ferry Meadows, and specifically when it is open for entry. The car park is open all year round for entry from 6:30 in the morning. In the Winter, (30th September - 26th March) the entry gate closes at 18:30. In the Summer, (27th March - 29th September) the entry gate closes at 21:00. Please note that the exit barrier remains open after these times should you find yourself enjoying the park so much that you forget the time.
