Message from the DOC re Phil Greaves (pictured with the Crane Trophy).

One of Plumtree’s finest Phil Greaves has recently had some very bad news, his Cancer has spread and he is on the final leg of life’s journey.

Phil was a fierce competitor and fine cricketer who Captained the Club in 2003, 2004 & 2005 and won the Crane Trophy (pictured) in 1999. He remains a true friend and I am sure you would all wish to join me in offering our thoughts and best wishes to Phil and his family.

Thanks to Plumtree CC for a fabulous women’s softball festival! 🔰

Photos from Plumtree CC's post 28/07/2024

Plumtree CC was at its finest today for our first Womens Softball Festival. Eight teams (Eastwood, Ellerslie, Farnsfield, Plumtree, Southwell, Thrumpton, Wollaton and Worksop) batted and bowled all day in the sun, with Southwell topping League 1 and Ellerslie League 2. All players and spectators were winners though, with a fine day of cricket and fun in the glorious weather. Thanks to everyone for coming and to our grounds team, bar staff and team of enthusiastic Plumtree volunteers for making this happen! ☀️🏏

Following on from the recent passing of our friend Bowie, his family would like to share news of his funeral arrangements.

"We will be celebrating the life of Paul Bowman on Friday 15th December at 13:15 the venue is Rushcliffe Oaks Crematorium NG12 2PY and afterwards at The Wheatsheaf Inn in Cropwell Bishop.

As a family we would like If everyone attending could wear a sports shirt because as a family we feel this best represents Paul."

It is with profound sadness that we report that our friend Paul Bowman has passed away. Paul's family and wide circle of friends are in our thoughts.

03/11/2023

Many members and friends will be aware that club legend Paul Bowman has had his struggles with cancer recently and we would like to share this message from his daughter Rosie:

So for those who know my truly amazing dad, Paul or to most of you Bowie, know he’s been battling cancer for 4 years and unfortunately he is now loosing the battle.

We have been given the heart breaking news that he has weeks left as the cancer has ravaged his body and his liver has started to fail.

He is currently being given amazing care at Hayward House and is still in the best spirits he can be, with his stupid jokes and comments that make everyone’s eyes roll and winding the amazing hospital staff up.

If anyone would like to visit please get in touch so I can try and arrange it for you at an appropriate time also he still has the same phone number so if you feel like messaging him some positive thoughts or mementoes of many years gone past I know he would appreciate it.

Dad and the family are grateful for all the care and support given to us from all angles. Please keep dad in your thoughts and I will try my hardest to keep you updated with any news ♥️

Take care Bowie.

This Wednesday marks two years since we sadly lost our beloved Husky. The club will be open for anyone who wishes to come down and use the facility as a space to meet with family and friends. The bar will be open from 6pm for anyone who wishes to raise a glass in memory of a wonderful young man who was taken too early💙

01/06/2023

This SATURDAY (the 3rd of June) Plumtree will be hosting a home coming for the six lads and two drivers who are taking part in The National Three Peaks Challenge. The boys should be down the PCG at 6pm, where there will be a BBQ with all profits going towards their donation pot. There will also be a bar promotion which will also be going towards their pot, so it’d be great to get a big crowd together to welcome and congratulate the boys home. Please share as far and wide! Good luck lads, you’ll smash it💙

Dick Cope, club stalwart and also a servant of the county game as a former president of Nottinghamshire CCC, died recently. His funeral will take place on Thursday 13 April at St Mary's Church, Plumtree at 1pm and afterwards at Trent Bridge.

Mark Oldham has written a glowing tribute to someone who played a key role in our club:

As a youngster starting out on my Cricket journey I was fortunate enough to have spent many a happy hour both on the Pitch and of equal if not more importance the Griffin Inn and various other establishments for the post-match debrief with Dick.

Norfolk Tour , Swansea Solicitors, Skegness for a match v Lincolnshire Gentleman and the many Sunday friendlies aided by his trusty sidekick the Umpire Bob Baker.

Whilst he never claimed to be a good cricketer he was a huge enthusiast for the game and the social side that came with it and with that an understanding that whilst you always played to win the camaraderie and friendships that you gained from being involved were so important and could help you in so many ways in your life.

Dick was a huge part of life at Plumtree Cricket Club and his sense of wanting to extract as much fun out of all aspects of this great game still very much form part of the culture at Plumtree today.

There can be no better tribute to Dick than this.

A life well lived.

RIP
