We like to mooove it!! (๐Ÿ˜ฌ maybe a bit too cringe a title but had to be done!๐Ÿคฃ) Today we moved the R1's (rising one year old heifer calves) to their next grazing paddock. The plan varies depending on the route. Today only required myself (with the kids) leading and Adam following. However because we had 2 road crossings and 1 footpath crossing it required Adam to get ahead (via the fields) or fall back to open and close the gates. This kind of move requires me to closely control the group speed i.e. slowing down to let Adam get ahead, but not too slow that the calves divert, and not too fast and break up the group. Super proud of our family effort, we always have an in-depth plan before we start, point out any "risk areas", have a back-up plan, and set up where we can ahead of the move, always moving with hi-vis on, which makes a difference for me spotting where Adam is. But thankfully all went well with just a little detour to see their R2 friends! #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #familyfarming #movingcattlewithoutarguements #stillallfriends #movingday #iliketomoveit #calves #heifers #safemove #teamwork #farmingwithmyfamily #farmsafe

Mixing work with kids can be challenging at times...the other day I had a big fencing session and Casey was getting a bit fed up. He wasn't quite ready for a nap, he didn't want food, drink or a cuddle, and I just needed another 10 minutes to finish but Casey wasn't having any of it. As soon as I mentioned the word "bubbles", the tension dissipated and excitement crept in. Maybe it's the calming effect from controlled breathing/bubble blowing, or maybe it's just the pure joy of creating something so simple yet quite magical, either way it worked a treat! After a few minutes, surrounded by bubbles, I was able to finish my job and get Casey home for a break. Generally Casey's very easy going at work, but we all have our moments, and it's nice to have a little method to help when needed. Keen to know your tips to calm a toddler...please comment ๐Ÿ˜Š. #toddlermoments #bubbles #toddlermum #farmkid #workingmum #lifeonthefarm #lifeofatwoyearold #calmdown #takeabreak #breathe #blowingbubbles

My "working Mum" era, and I wouldn't want it any other way ๐Ÿซถ. Farming is quite a unique industry where work life and family life often blends. My job enables me to safely bring the kids along with me. I try my best to keep the jobs engaging and fun, and as they learn we're actually becoming more efficient as a team! ๐Ÿฅฐ #mum #farmer #farmkids #farmingwithkids #farmingfamily #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #motherofsons #calfrearing

Fencing...do you love it or hate it? I'm currently loving it, grass is in abundance and all the different age groups of cattle on the farm are in full grazing mode. Over the years I have added to my own youngstock grazing kit, with trial and error I've found the equipment and techniques that work for me and the youngstock that I graze. The novelty may have worn off in a few months, but currently there is nothing more satisfying than calculating and fencing grazing breaks, and seeing the animals thrive on it. Most of my kit is bought, but I was kindly gifted 2 of these @gallagher.unitedkingdom reels from @pasturetec , making reeling in reels almost effortless! #grazing #reels #grazingcalves #grazingcows #organicgrazing #pasturetec #farmer #farming #reelitin #fencingequipment #fencing #gifted #brandambassador

In support of Mental Health Awareness Week I wanted to draw attention to the importance and benefit of having a Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) in the workplace. It's normal to seek help from a First Aider if you are physically injured at work. I want to normalise seeking help from a MHFA for mental ill-health. I do believe this could really help with opening up conversations about mental health, breaking down stigmas associated with it and preventing crisis points being reached. I did my MHFA training through @redumbrellauk and @rabicharity . Just "googling" it brings up lots of options too including @stjohn_ambulance and @mindcharity . #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessweek #mentalhealthfirstaid #firstaid #workplace #support #listen #talk #support

We started a high-visibility policy this year whereby everyone working on farm must wear at least 1 item of high-vis e.g. a jumper, vest, tshirt or hat etc. Here are a few things I've noticed since: ๐Ÿงก Everyone has taken the policy on board and supports it. ๐Ÿงก It now seems strange not to be in high-vis, same as our quadbike helmet policy, the safety changes soon just become normality. ๐Ÿงก It makes you register a lot quicker where people are. ๐Ÿงก On foggy, rainy days it really makes a massive difference to people's visibility. ๐Ÿงก Becoming safety conscious makes you think about what else you can do for yourself and others to be even safer. ๐Ÿงก When wearing high-vis on the school run, people will comment about how you stand out etc! ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿคญ ๐Ÿงก You may accidentally be mistaken as highway maintenance or a builder...all high risk jobs though doing their best to improve the safety of their work force. As farmers our industry needs to do the same. To me, being farm safety concious is making lots of little changes, to hopefully make an overall bigger and safer picture. #farmsafety #farmsafetyambassador #yellowwellies #besafebeseen #highvis @yellowwelliesuk #farmsafetyfoundation

So many little love hearts ๐Ÿ˜โค๏ธ๐Ÿ„... Some are more tenuous than others, but love spotting these little heart-like markings. Can you spot the little heart shape nose marking towards the end too? Wishing everyone a very Happy Valentine's Day whether you're celebrating your love for someone else, or your love for yourself and life! โค๏ธ๐Ÿฉท #happyheart #valentinesday #valentines #loveheart #happythoughts #spreadinglove

My heart โค๏ธ๐Ÿซถ Yesterday teatime Adam got back home and I suggested Abel and Casey go in with him and have a play before getting ready for bed etc. But, they both protested because they wanted to see Tiny, Pet and the rest of the calf gang and help me feed them ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅฐ. They were an amazing help, getting calves up and teat trained, and the most special moment these two taking their job of feeding Tiny very seriously...oh my heart! ๐Ÿ˜ #farmkids #brothers #proudmum #calfcrew #calfrearing #farmingfamily

When the calves got spooked!! A couple of weeks ago something in the woods spooked the calves, Casey said it was a "roar" i.e. a T-Rex, so to celebrate our dinosaur loving boy's 2nd birthday, here's what really happened! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿฆ– #happybirthdaycasey #2yearsold #dinosaur #trex #pterodactyl #calves #jurassicpark

Winter grazing...satisfying, challenging, rewarding, tiring, muddy...a few words to describe it. But here's why I think MORE is LESS... Overall it's so important to try and get it right, not only for the animals, but the soil too. It's about being flexible and adaptable. I've just finished grazing a paddock that would have been at least 3x 24 hour feeds in dry conditions, but due to the storm (bringing wet and windy conditions and lowering the dry matter of the grass) I gave them more, and made it 2 breaks, and so glad I did. The animals have remained full and content, they had plenty of space along the hedge to shelter when needed, they grazed the paddock down well without unnecessary trauma to the ground, and yes there were still a few muddier patches near the water trough and fence line, but overall pleased with my decision. So, in this case MORE is LESS: more space = less stress to the animals and ground! #outwintering #heiferrearing #heifers #grazing #lifeonthefarm #fencing #reels

The most helpful little team mate ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’™ Love how he calls the R1's. Between both kids, I think I'll be out of a job before too long! ๐Ÿ˜œ #farmkid #toddlerlife #farmingwithkids #farmher #workingtogether

2024 where did you come from? Time is flying by too fast... I miss who our children were, but look forward to who they become. Here's to a year of focussing on the present, seeing the beauty in the day-to-day, and making the most of time with loved ones. So grateful to start 2024 with a mini-break in Cornwall with my family; a chance to recharge(ish) before we countdown to Spring calving. #familytime #seaside #recharge #familyoffour #cornwall #windyday #waves #newyearresolution beach | family | mini-break | New Year
