Boiler services are so important to ensure that your boiler is working at its best and safely too. Every winter we have customers with boiler breakdowns at the most inopportune and, usually, coldest moments, leaving them with a cold home and desperately trying to get an appointment with busy Gas Engineers

Because of this, it makes sense to have your boiler serviced in the warmer months, especially July, August or early September where a specialist can fix up any problems in preparation for the Winter. The main benefit of getting your boiler serviced in the Summer is that if you have any issues that require your heating to be switched off, you wonโ€™t be stuck in a freezing cold home.

So why not book in your boiler service in these warmer months.

It is the end of an era at Direct Heat; Logan has handed in his notice to move on to the next chapter in his working life. Don't let oddities with gas appliances go unnoticed! For example, if a gas hob produces a lazy, yellow flame rather than a crisp blue one, this may indicate that the appliance is unsafe.

Many millions of homes still have elderly central heating systems and so although it's quite common to hear of boiler replacements it is fairly rare to hear of radiators being replaced. Nevertheless, radiators manufactured before 2000 can be up to 50% less efficient that modern varieties.

We know moving home can be a stressful time with lots to consider, but safety should be top of the list to ensure you donโ€™t put yourself, or your family, in danger. Heating issues may not be your only problem if your new homeโ€™s gas appliances are faulty.
WHAT ACTION SHOULD I TAKE?
Youโ€™ll want to obtain a gas safety record (sometimes known as a gas safety certificate) when buying a house. Hereโ€™s what youโ€™ll need to do:
Ask the current owners for a gas safety record or certificate for all appliances in the property. If they canโ€™t provide a record, or itโ€™s been over 12 months since the last check, get in touch with a Gas Safe registered engineer to carry out a gas safety check before you move in.

Well, I must have done that much of a good job installing the boiler on Tuesday that Paul has had me out and about flushing sludge out of radiators today. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Currently trying to locate my employment contract to see what my roles and responsibilities actually are! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Got to admit though I did enjoy watching all the sludge get flushed out. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Really proud of this installation. With Logan unable to work this Tuesday, I stepped in as Paulโ€™s assistant to get this home back warm and cosy. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป Must have walked up the loft ladders a million times and Paul had to show real patience as I asked โ€œwhatโ€™s one of thoseโ€ everytime he asked for something- but we got the job done and the heating on- and thatโ€™s what matters. Another happy customer. Iโ€™m glad to be back in the office today ๐Ÿ˜‚ I think Paul is too!

An LPG boiler install today. The customer decided on a Worcester 8000 life which was a welcome change. But tomorrow itโ€™s back to our usual Ideal boilers- letโ€™s hope we get the Logic installed and up and running before the snow. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Today we were out meeting a lovely new customer and servicing his boiler and fire. The gentleman informed us that he had his boiler serviced every year to ensure he kept his warranty. It came as a surprise therefore to both us and the customer to see such a hefty build-up on the filter. After a Direct Heat Service the customer can rest assured that his filters have definitely been cleaned as they should and his boiler is back working to its operational best.

At the start of the new year we always reflect on the year as a whole; the achievements we have made and the areas we need to improve. We reflect on the customers we have continued to look after and the new ones we have picked-up and how we can continue to improve the service we provide them. We consider our strengths and our weaknesses. One job I reflect back on with personal pride is a bathroom we completed in the summer - it definitely had the wow factor. As we start 2024 - we will be working hard to continue to look after our valued customers and provide a service that we are proud of. Another year of working hard to achieve our targets.

From the first contact Monday stating their old boiler had broken to less than 24 hours later with a new boiler and now a cosy, warm home.

No one wants a broken boiler, no heating and no hot water when the temperature is freezing outside. With our quick and efficient response and reaction time as well as our competitive prices - this customer definitely didn't have to. Direct Heat will always prioritise emergency boiler breakdowns in their diary as we understand the inconvenience a broken boiler can have on families.

We would also like to thank our customers who were impacted when we had to reschedule the diary this week to deal with these boiler emergencies. Your understanding is always appreciated. โ˜บ๏ธ

With the temperature set to drop to a possible -2 this evening and a spell of freezing temperatures - you potentially could end up with some Frozen Condensate Pipes on your boilers. This may result in your boiler locking out and flashing error codes.

It may be worth trying to defrost your frozen condensate pipe yourself, if you can reach it safely. This can be done with warm water (NEVER BOILING WATER) or a hot water bottle. Work at the end of the pipe furthest away from your boiler first. When this is done re-set your boiler.

โ€œBOILER TAXโ€ FROM 1ST JAN 2024

A quick note to all of our customers who have an ongoing quote on our system for a new boiler. Amanda will be reaching out to you this week to see if you want to order your boiler before the price increases on 1st january 2024

The government have confirmed from 1st January 2024 boiler manufacturers will face a ยฃ3,000 fine for every missed heat pump sale

Because of this all of the major boiler manufacturers are adding around ยฃ120 or more to every gas and boiler to cover these penalties.

With the Government drive and incentive to push heat pumps into homes, the Government has decided to impose strict targets on all UK Gas Boiler Manufacturers (like Baxi, Ideal, Worcester Bosch etc) into installing a certain amount of air source heat pumps against how many Gas Boilers they install. Although Heat Pumps do have their positives they are not suitable for every home in the UK. They are cost efficient in well insulated or โ€˜new buildโ€™ type homes that have large radiators, solar panels or underfloor heating. Most of the older homes in the UK are not as well suited and it might result in an inefficient heating output.

In summary, for UK gas boiler manufacturers the CHMM requires that 4% of all gas boiler sales are to be matched in volume with heat pump sales. Failure to do this will result in a ยฃ3000 penalty/fine for every heat pump they fail to sell under the target.

Baxi have stated that due to the Government Bill they are now having to charge a โ€œClean Heat Market Mechanism Levyโ€ of ยฃ120 for every boiler they sell. Ideal Boilers an extra ยฃ110 per boiler. Worcester Bosch has already shared in the Sunday Times that the impact of the CHMM fines could mean a ยฃ120 increase even reaching up to a ยฃ300 on their gas boilers that would be passed on to the consumers, with CEO Carl Arntzen likening the policy to a โ€˜boiler taxโ€™.

With the โ€œBoiler Taxโ€ essentially coming into play on ๐‰๐š๐ง๐ฎ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’,(in three weeks) if you know you are due a new boiler, your boiler is on its last legs and you are waiting it out until the new year before an upgrade - We would recommend getting your new boiler in now and save yourself from having to pay the imposed boiler penalties.
