So on Monday morning starting late I began to transform the look of this front garden, the owners had trimmed a shrub at the front bit their turf was tired and full of moss, there was a bit of a hump and they’d decided now was the time to replace the lawn. So after all the rain I got the old turf up, and began levelling and creating a larger flat area for their new lawn, I layed some fresh turf and left my signature striped and finished off the edge closest to the house with some golden gravel. The difference was night and day and the customers love their new front garden.

So for this garden the customer had a plan, they wanted to turf over an area where there were 20 something trees and shrubs in a bed. After a brief discussion, we decided we were going to try to save and re home as many as possible. i managed to transplant 90 percent of the shrubs and trees successfully to other beds and areas of the garden. Then I turfed over where the old bed was. After this I constructed a raised sleeper bed and sourced some absolutely stunning shrubs and trees to give a fresh new look and eventually by next spring a tiny bit of height above the fence for some added privacy. Whilst transplanting some of the shrubs there was a bed area with a bare soil front. After searching around the garden I managed to find enough spare pieces of walling stone to build a small section of drystone wall and transplanted three of the shrubs from the old bed into this area.

Today I took some time out from transforming gardens and landscapes to visit europes largest horticultural trade show. So this client had some raised beds created and a patio layed by another company, but they needed some turf supplying and laying to finish the garden off.
With the turf done, the garden now looks complete and smart with a modern new look, and a fresh stripey lawn.

Veg Patch Transformation.

For the past two days I’ve had the absolute pleasure of transforming this veg patch garden and bringing it back into a usable state. The beds had some huge brambles and weeds that needed tackling. There was moss on the Paths which were almost hidden amongst the hugely overgrown patches. I strimmed and hand weeded and dug and pulled, and eventually the weeds were gone. I cleared the moss and tidied up the paved areas also. This was a hugely satisfying job to tackle and seeing the difference between the before and after pictures at the end the difference is huge. So on Wednesday this week I got to tackle this huge lawn that was very very long and in need of some love. this morning I tackled a small turfing job, after a little levelling and prep removing some weeds, I got busy laying and this was the end result. A freshly layed perfectly level and flat striped lawn that looks amazing! Today I had the absolute pleasure of tackling this amazing greenspace, the new owners had just moved in and needed abit of a tidy up. So I got to work giving the hedge a good tight cut, putting some shape into the shrubs again, strimming and spraying weeds, and putting some lovely stripes into the the front lawn. Frustratingly despite sun being forecast all day, it started to rain after this, so I had to abandon the front garden for a while to set about trying to turn what looked like a large steeply sloped field into a lawn again, tomorrow I’m tackling the lower area of the rear garden, and we’ll see if agricultural land can be strimmed then mowed to turn it into a striped lawn

Today I was clearing and tidying an area of land that had a huge amount of bramble and buddleia spouting out of walls and pavements. There were huge amounts of moss and weeds, plus at least one full winters worth of leaves that needed some attention.

So this client called us in to investigate a garden that constantly flooded in a few areas even in light rain. We could see a few possible contributing factors to their problem (neighbours gardens sitting higher with some hard standings meaning all the rainfall washed straight into their garden, garden has a natural slope down from the rear towards the house )We began to dig and soon discovered even more factors at play then we thought. The first picture is a perforated drainage pipe we discovered buried. It had no end cap, wasn’t connected to anything, no geotextile sock, wrong materials used to backfill in trench. The pipe was completely full of soil and blocked. As we dug we discovered three more pipes like this and a soakaway full of bricks,concrete, tarmac. Also a buried concrete path that had been turfed over.
So the fix, we dug three trenches to install french drains. We found there was an existing drain close by but a new patio made access to plumb into this tricky. We dug a pit for two aqua cell crates. We burrowed under the patio to expose the spare inputs on the inspection chamber. We then covered all pipes to prevent them blocking, capping them off, joined them together and plumbed them into the existing drainage system. The aqua cell crates we buried in the worst affected area, but we also put an overflow system in place. When the level inside the crates reaches a certain point in a heavy storm, the third drainage pipe connected to the crates at one end and into the drainage system helps to prevent the aqua cell crates becoming overwhelmed and allows water to drain away should there be any severe rainfall.
