A final thankyou goes to our solo cornet player, Henry Lay and our long time friend Nicola French who have helped out the band since the departure of our conductor. Henry has previously conducted the Lancaster University Brass Band and Nicola is an ex Pilling member who is now the MD of Lancaster City Brass. Without their help, the Christmas jobs would not have been possible.
The band are now looking forward to a rest before working towards the North West Area Contest in February and more concerts locally. Watch this space for announcements!
Have a lovely Christmas and a peaceful New Year from all at Pilling Band.

Christmas concert 2023 at Pilling Village Hall. A number of awards were given out:
Alan Danson and Jack Isles recieved their long service awards, Kate Marney recieved the Frank Bradshaw trophy for Player's Player for her musical contribution to the band and Helen Hall recieved the Mike Hallett trophy for contributing behind the scenes to the running of the band.
It was also a momentous occasion as we had our newly formed training band performing a few Carols. They have done so well in such a short space of time. As a thankyou, they were all presented with a band t-shirt.

A very cold Affinity (Freeport to us locals) last Saturday. I think it is the coldest band job we have ever done. One member took himself to bed with an electric blanket when he got back home at lunch time!

The first of our Christmas engagements this year was at Brickhouse Cottages.

Recently the band did a rehearsal at Lancaster Girl's Grammar School and invited brass players from from the Girl's and Boy's Grammar and Ripley to take part. Six young players turned up, supported by their music teachers. Here we are playing Green, Green Grass by George Ezra. Incidentally, we found out that George Ezra's trumpet player actually attended LGGS as a pupil! Very fitting that this was in our rehearsal programme.

We will be playing between 2.30pm & 3.30pm - come along to get into the festive spirit

Following on from Remembrance Sunday the band have had 2 very successful rehearsals with plenty of 'bums on seats' as we call it. We are now in the throes of rehearsing for our busy calendar of Christmas jobs. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Nicola French for stepping in as MD to help us through the festive season. Nicola is the MD of Lancaster City Brass and a long standing friend of the band. She is doing an excellent job of whipping us into shape. We would also like to give a warm welcome back to 2 former members of the band - Joy Watson who has had a short break and Sandra Jepson who has rejoined our ranks. We have also gained a new Eb bass player, Hannah, from Lancaster University. On a lighter note, we are thinking of entering the Guiness Book of Records for the most bass players you can fit in a band room. Tonight we had six!!

Pilling Band have been very busy today taking part in Remembrance services and parades. Between us, we have been to St Michael's, Garstang, Pilling, Stalmine and Preesall. It was very wet and cold but always a pleasure to be involved. We are all now at home thawing out and drying our music. Next stop, Christmas!

Steve Hartley steps down as Musical Director of Pilling Band

After almost 6 years with Pilling Jubilee Silver Band, Steve Hartley has announced his decision to step down as Musical Director.

During Steve’s time with the Band he has led us to many contest successes including qualification for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain for only the second time in the Band’s history and promotion to our highest ever grading in the Second Section thanks to a 3rd place finish at the North West Regional Championships in 2020. As well as this he also led us to 4 second place results and 1 first place at Brass At The Guild in 2019.

Everyone at Pilling Band would like to thank Steve for his dedication and hard work during his time with the Band and we wish him well for the future.

We're a bit short of players tonight so if there's any brass players at a loose end you'd be made more than welcome.

Another day, another band! Today, we ventured out of the area to help our friends at Darwen Band for a Rotary Club fundraiser in Market Square. What a cracking set of people they are. They made us feel very welcome.

Pilling Band are on the hunt for players. We are a 2nd section band who meet twice a week for rehearsals (Tuesdays and Thursdays 8pm til 9:45) and would be interested in hearing from players who are approximately Grade 5 standard or above. We have a range of ages within the band from 16-91! Instruments can be provided if necessary. All bands advertise themselves as being friendly but we really are a friendly bunch. If you are interested or know someone who may be interested in joining then please get in contact with us. It's really important that we keep the brass banding tradition alive.

Pilling Coffee Feast was our last March of the summer season. It was lovely to see so many people out watching in our home village.

We couldn’t have done it without the help of players from other local bands as we’ve quite a few players on holiday. We are also very lucky to have some not so local friends who regularly come and help us out from the Yorkshire area of Leyburn (we really should sort out a joint concert Richard HorsleyJan Marshall)
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us out over summer.

We’ve a bit a of rest now from engagements until September 16th when we will be holding a concert at Pilling Methodist Chapel. More details to follow.
