The Foreign Embassy

A former foreign embassy by the sea. Eaters, feeders & feasters.

Hi everyone, we’ve been quiet on here because we’ve been busy everywhere else. So let the catch up begin, kicking off with Lori spending the day with Year 6 at last week to teach all 60 of them to make their own fresh pasta and tomato sauce. The kids loved it and all took a meal home to eat with their families. Big thanks to Simona and Harry for lending us the pasta machines and to for the amazing opportunity. ❤️

12/04/2024

Hi again,
with tickets going on sale at 10am tomorrow, and a bunch of lovely new followers since the .magazine article, we wanted to recap a little on how our feasts work so everyone knows what to expect.

First up, tickets go on sale. Seats are very limited, so grab them while you can.
The link to buy will be in our Instagram bio and on our website, where you’ll find FAQs and more detail about the event, allergens and accessibility.
We’ll continue to hint at the location and menu up until the feast itself.
But guests will be emailed the day before the feast with the exact location and a map of how to find us.
Tickets include a welcome drink and six courses of delicious local food.
Wine and non-alcoholic drinks will be available to buy on the night and payments will be card only.
You’ll find out the full menu as you take your seat at the table.
And feasts are sociable, communal events, set around one big table, so bring your appetites and get ready for a night with old friends and new ones too. A lot of feast friendships have been formed, which is one of our favourite things about them :)

11/04/2024

Hello feasters,
The countdown has well and truly started and we have just two days left before tickets go on sale.

We’re planning away on the details and have a beautiful menu for you all. We’re really excited to be working with some of our favourite suppliers and their lovely produce, so expect the freshest, most seasonal and local ingredients Kent has to offer.

In a nutshell:
Our beautiful location is a ten minute drive/taxi away from Ramsgate.
Tickets include a welcome drink and six courses.
The food at this feast is very much omnivorous and isn’t suitable for vegetarians or pescatarians.
Due to the nature of the event, we won’t be able to make any substitutions.
Seats at the table are limited as always.
So get ready and fingers on buzzers, tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10am sharp.
We can’t wait to feed you,
Lori, Dave and Jo.

We are so incredibly sad that Archive is closing its doors. What a wonderful space. What a wonderful place. What an amazing group of people, both Naomi and her entire team. What a lot of fun and mayhem and food we made during our four week residency at the end of last year. What a lot of love is spilling out from everyone at this news. What a loss for Ramsgate. ❤️

31/12/2023

HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉
To every single person who supported us, worked with us, and sat around the table. Who brought their appetites, open minds and fabulous outfits. Thank you for everything. We’re hanging up our aprons for 2023 and pouring ourselves a stiff drink. Have a wonderful night everyone, and 2024, we’re coming to get you.
Love from Jo, Dave and Lori ❤️

SET YOUR ALARMS!

A reminder that tickets for The Foreign Residency at Archive go on sale tomorrow at 10am.

We also wanted to take a moment to explain a few differences between this and our usual feasts.

Each evening will take place in the beautiful fairy-lit space upstairs at Archive on Ramsgate Harbour.

You’ll be served five courses, and the food will be family-style sharing to keep that sociable, communal, but still theatrical feel.

Doors will open from 7pm, so do join us for a drink at the bar before sitting down to eat at 7.45pm sharp.

The ticket price includes all of your food for the evening. A selection of cocktails, wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks will be available to buy at the bar before and at the table during the meal.

And finally, we’ve lifted the two tickets per order limit for these events, so you can bring as many friends as you like 🎉

06/10/2023

Good morning everyone.
A big heads up from us that tickets for all four weeks of The Foreign Residency at Archive will be going on sale at 10am this Sunday 8th October.

The Residency runs for four consecutive Saturdays from 11th November.
One for the pescatarians.
One for the vegetarians.
One for the carnivores.
And one for the omnivores.

As always, seats at the table are limited, so run, don’t walk 🏃‍♀️

05/10/2023

💥WE HAVE BIG NEWS!💥

The three of us are super excited to announce that we’ll be introducing The Foreign Residency upstairs at the beautiful Archive in Ramsgate Harbour, starting on November 11th for four consecutive Saturdays.

With showstopper food, a healthy dose of candlelight and family style sharing to keep the communal feel we love, there will be a different theme each week. One for the carnivores, one for the pescatarians, one for the vegetarians and one for the omnivores.

Keep an eye out on here, more info and ticket details coming very soon.

Love from Lori, Dave and Jo ❤️

The Foreign Embassy events are pretty big. But backstage, we are small, very DIY and surrounded by prep and lists for a week before the feast. Throw some interesting electrics, temperamental fairy lights, four kids and sous vide machines that don’t quite fit the food into the mix and it’s a rollercoaster. Good job we like rollercoasters 😉🎢 🫠🔥

HERE COMES THE FOOD…

We kicked off ‘Heat’ with a punchy tom yum shot and tempura king prawn. Which disappeared faster than we could photograph it.

Then a panko curried chicken and Sichuan peppercorn bonbon, miso mayonnaise for dunking, and edible flowers. And a marinated tofu bonbon for the non-meat eaters.

Followed by a delicate dish of blowtorched mackerel, turmeric pickled mooli, wasabi cream, Icelandic lava salt, crispy seaweed and Jerusalem artichoke crisps.

Then Staple sourdough with fire butters: smoked aubergine, herb and green chilli, and an addictive lime pickle.

The main event of ten hour slow-cooked spiced ox cheek, beetroot and fermented chilli purée, burnt onion purée, scorched shallot and crispy onions. With citrus spiked cauliflower for the non meat-eaters and sides of cavolo nero ‘aio, oio e peperoncino’ and roast heritage carrots with dukkah for everyone to share.

A palate cleanser of mango and chilli salt ice lolly, before the finale of dark chocolate and ancho chilli torte with blood orange ice cream, candied blood orange and burned Italian meringue.

Massive thanks again to Tim Burrell Saward for the beautiful El Diablo welcome drink and Monk’s Orchard nightcap. And to our wonderful guests for bringing their best appetites.

13/09/2023

Morning everyone!
We’ve had a few questions, so here are a few answers on the practical side of things.

This is a feast that includes fish, meat and vegetables, showcasing as much lovely local produce as possible.

We don’t normally make changes to the menu due to the nature of the events and locations. But on this occasion, as long as you let us know at least a week before the feast, we can make a couple of substitutions to make it suitable for pescatarians too.

Apologies to the vegetarians but we promise there’s more coming up soon.

On the heat side of things, some of you are worried it’ll be too spicy. Don’t worry, we’re taking the brief of ‘Heat’ in as many ways as we can, which could mean chilli, yes. But it could also be gentler spicing, searing, steaming or smoking. So this one won’t be for you if you don’t like any spice at all, but rest assured it will be very balanced and won’t blow your heads off :)

11/09/2023

Heat comes in many forms.
Steaming. Searing. Scorching. Slow-cooking. Spicing.
Now we just have to see which ones make it onto the final menu…

🔥🔥 HEAT 🔥🔥
