Stitch of Amber
Sewing, alterations & repairs
The black alteration pile is finished! A gorgeous dress has been taken up from full length to a more flattering calf length, trousers taken in at the waist, and lengthened from the waist, and a workplace hoody repair and pocket reattachment after a 'workplace incident' (it's my son's, I'm allowed to be over-dramatic ..)
On with the sizable random sewing pile now!
I had a bit of a funny turn and signed up for an open university degree course, it was actually something I've wanted to do for many years, so decided to seize the day by the horns! It started last month... I got behind in the first week ๐. I've finally (just about) caught up, and did at least submit my first assignment on time... While nervously awaiting my results I've managed to start catching up with sewing work, hooray! The blue pile was first:
A footstool cover to match previously made curtains
A dress back altered to fit,
A top taken in at the sides...
Time to crack on with the black pile next, no time to waste scrolling through social media! ( You know I will ๐)

Two more memory bears ready for their new carers ๐ฉท
Memory bears made from a loved ones items ๐ฉท. It's always such a privilege to create something so personal, truly made with love.
I've been busy in the sewing room... 3 curtain panels taken up and a footstool cover made from the 4th...
I've been keeping busy with some personalised embroidery... and tackling the chaos of the sewing room. How do I get so disorganised?! ๐.
Sublimation next! After some curtain alterations... cover making.. clothes alterations... chair re-stringing...
Focus!!!
Messing around with embroidery...
I am REALLY looking forward to delivering these to their new home... Has to be done in person I think ๐ฌ๐ท๐. A cosy throw and matching cushions for cooler evenings.
Feeling creative...
It was a quiet week in the sewing room (nowhere else!) so I started tackling my fix pile. I repurposed an unloved sweater dress into a... Sweater! Some trousers had to be taken in along all seams, and 6 inches taken off the waist, a sad reflection of a difficult year for me. Lastly for now, a top which I love for the fabric, but not the style, has been turned into a fitted vest ๐.
Been playing with the embroidery machine ๐
Another busy week in the sewing room! The top has been taken in at the shoulders and front, jacket sleeves taken up and a nice hook & eye added, and the jeans have been taken up and the waists taken in by adding elastic! This method is a first for me I think, but should help the jeans fit much better around the back of the waist. ๐ค
What a fantastic message on a Monday morning! ๐๐
Very happy to have completed this bulk order, 111(!) pouches sewn up ready to go in keepsake frames ๐ค
I love this fleece lined jumper I was gifted for Christmas, it's very me! ๐. It was missing something though... Now it has a pocket, and thumb holes in cuffs, and it's my new favourite jumper! Mmmmm toasty...
I finally finished the wrap dress I started at last spring's Creative Sewing Weekend, just in time to wear to my beautiful Nana's 90th birthday celebrations โค๏ธ. Happy new year to you all, may it be happy and healthy! ๐ X
I finally finished the dress I started at the 'body double' sewing workshop in September! The waist tie and loops have been added, and the fit has been adjusted as it was a bit big... Now to finish the wrap dress I started in April ๐
My first time making stoma bag covers, I love the festive choice of fabric!
How cute is this gift my lovely friend gave me when she brought some sewing work?! ๐โค๏ธ
A quick jeans take up, quality checked by cat!
It has been difficult to find time for sewing work lately, for personal reasons, so it's really good to be back in the sewing room! Trousers and jumpsuit legs taken up โ
A new badge sewn on for the boy ๐๐ค
A VERY rare occurrence for me. I despise ironing, and those who know me well know I only.plug the iron in for work purposes. BUT... Teen has a big day tomorrow, and he's had a lot to deal with lately, so I made a deal: I'll iron so he can concentrate on preparing for his exams. I'm really feeling the pressure, it's a precise art! I hope I'm doing it right...
I found treasure in the garden! What shall I do with it?
Badges sewn on to this tunic ready for some very important events... Although sewing these makes me curse, sometimes bleed a little, and ALWAYS requires a quick unpick, I actually really enjoy it purely because of the gorgeous detail in the badges!
It's taken over a week since being back, with one thing or another, but the sewing machine has been switched back on! I have a few jobs to finish, a few to start, and lots of ideas, so Henrietta Horizon should be busy for quite a while! ๐๐งต๐ชก
I had a lovely time at the creative sewing weekend, creating my 'body double', and testing it with a maxi dress pattern ๐
Various alterations completed over the last few weeks.
I really enjoyed making this 'Mother of the Groom' outfit... with help from my assistant...
