Stainless steel crack stitching bars are inserted into slots that are cut into the wall, usually in the bed joints. The stitching bars are high tensile helical rods.

C40 is used to interlock with the helical bars and them we finishoff with quick lime mix

Ongoing project at this lovely Grade II Listed House At Masham

We have found some old carvings of Hexfoils which were carved into the stone to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune

Here we have a sympathetic repair to the lovely 1909 fever hospital in Masham. After years of leaking cast guttering the corner needed a good gutter/downpipe refurb and lime repoint.

Completed just in 3 days :)

The use of cement on old houses accelerates the aging process. The moisture is forced to evaporate through the face rather than the mortar joint.
Once brick/stone have spalled back more then few millimeters, it not only become unsightly but also can lead to damp problem.

Unfortunately over the last few decades understanding of traditional solid walls has disappeared... its sad to see builders applying cement render, waterproof sealants, wrong type of paint and damp proof courses. Sorry to say but it won't do any good to your property.
The wall of traditional building absorbs moisture but this readily evaporates, leaving the structure dry. There are no impermeable barriers to trap moisture at any point.

NCN 665 between Wood Lane and Church Causeway Walton will reopen Saturday 2nd October after completion of bridge works.

Thanks very much to lime mortar specialists AH Maintenance for completing the works ahead of schedule. If you look up under the bridges you will see gaps left for bats to return to their roosts; you will also see additional roosts of bat boxes in trees and bat bricks on the bridge side arches.

Today we finished a 5-week project at Thorpe Arch Viaduct. We could not be happier with the results!!
Thorpe Arch is a triple arch stone/brick bridge. It was built as a farmer's accommodation bridge over the Harrogate to Church Fenton Railway.
We worked alongside with a Ecologist to ensure we comply with Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations. On the pictures Below you can see we left open cavities and install special bat brick as specified.
Its essential to use correct materials to slow down the process of weathering/ aging especially when we are dealing with excess of water.
We swapped over 350 bricks. Damage or cement-based mortar has been replaced with lime mortar NHL 3.5
