*** IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE 2024 NORDEN 6 MILE ROAD RACE AND KNOWL HILL FELL RACE ***
There are a couple of road restrictions on Edenfield Road of relevance to the Norden 6 Mile Road Race (7th June 2024) and the Knowl Hill Fell Race (9th June 2024).
Norden 6 Mile Road Race, 7th June 2024
On the first climb up Edenfield Road, there are emergency repairs to a burst water main and the usual footpath is being excavated. We have spoken to Highways and the Contractors and we have been assured that there will be a ramp down from the path just before the roadworks which will pass safely through the roadworks without you needing to cross Edenfield Road. In other words, keep left. We will have a marshal at this point.
Knowl Hill Fell Race
The 1250 kilometer Tour of Britain Women cycling event reaches Rochdale on Sunday (the same day as the Knowl Hill Fell Race). This will result in a number of rolling road closures in Greater Manchester, including the Rochdale area. The cycle route passes through Norden Village and along the entire length of Edenfield Road. According to signage (see above) Edenfield Road may be closed for some or all of the period 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Sunday. Also there will be no parking allowed on Edenfield Road on Sunday for about 5 hours and any vehicles parked there could be towed away and/or fines imposed.
We therefore recommend the following fro the Knowl Hill fell Race on Sunday:
(1) allow extra time to get to registration (Norden Bowling & Social Club, Trinity Street, Rochdale OL12 7RD) for the Knowl Hill Fell Race. Some roads in the area may be closed and you might need to park further away from Registration than usual;
(2) do not park on Edenfield Road or you may be fined and/or your car towed away; and
(3) if you need to get away from the Knowl Hill fell Race before 12:45, park somewhere that does not require you to drive across or along Edenfield Road (e.g. on the housing estate down Clay Lane, to the south of Edenfield Road).
The race reports for Blackstone Edge and the Manchester 10K and Half Marathon are now available on the website: https://rochdaleharriers.org.uk/
Congratulations to everyone who braved the awful weather (and the Bog of Eternal Stench) to do the Blackstone Edge Fell Race last night.
Eight Rochdale Harriers took part. John Bramwell was our first home (15th in 40:04). Continuing their awesome run of good form, Kay Welsby was first lady (41:10) and Emma Ball was 1st FV50 and 4th lady (47:08). Jennie Ransome was 3rd FV60 (51:27) and Molly Howell 4th FSEN (54:33).
I bet a few shower plug holes got blocked last night!

What Motivates Triathletes?
In common with many athletics Clubs, quite a few of our members compete in triathlons. We can help with the running side of things.
Danielle Dignan of RHAC is studying for an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Leeds Beckett University. As part of her research, Danielle would like to better understand what motivates amateur triathletes to train for and compete in age-group triathlons. If you would be interested in completing a short, online interview (takes about 30-45 mins) please contact Danielle on [email protected]. This is open to all triathletes, regardless of whether or not you are a member of Rochdale Harriers & A.C..
Many thanks to Halifax Harriers for hosting the Calderdale Way Relay Race yesterday and arranging such beautiful weather! ☀️ For the first time in many years, Rochdale Harriers fielded three teams with 36 of our athletes taking part in the 51 mile, off-road event.
A big shout out to those who helped us complete third team, some at very short notice. And to our members who were disappointed at being unable to take part this year due to injury - put next year's date in your diary. We'll be back 🤖
Here are a few pictures from the day 😀
*** You can enter the Rochdale Three Day Event (7th-9th June) on the day, but only those who enter by midnight today (17th May) and complete all three days will get a T-shirt (because the printer requires 3 weeks notice). You can enter here: https://rochdaleharriers.org.uk/our-races-2024/ ***
