Students at John Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye eagerly opened their GCSE results today. The school rolled out a red carpet for the Year 11 students, treating them to ice-creams as they collected their examination results. There was a celebratory atmosphere as the school achieved a stellar set of examination results.
Headteacher, Julian Morgan, commented βWeβve made improvements in every performance measure this year and this is a tribute to the tireless work of our amazing students, the staff here and our fantastic families. This has very much been a team effort. Focus in lessons, exam boosters, endless breakfast sessions, boosters, warm ups and much much more have paid off."
The school's performance looks especially good against a national picture of falling grades. Key statistics from this year's results include:
β’ 70% per cent of grades were at grade 4 or above, against a national average of 67.6%
β’ 68% of our students secured a grade between 9 and 4 in both English and Mathematics. An increase of 5%.
β’ Students achieved an impressive 86 GCSEs at Grade 9, showing these students were in the top 3% in the country.
Several students have notable achievements:
β’ Luke W achieved 9 GCSEs at grade 9!
β’ Gemma P gained 7 GCSEs at grade 9 and a further 2 at grade 8
β’ Faith gained 3 grade 9's and 6 grade 8's
β’ Gabriel B earned 4 grade 9's, 2 grade 8's, 3 grade 7's and a grade 6.
Paul Deneen OBE JP DL, the Chair of the Local Governing Board at the John Kyrle High School and Sixth Form Centre said, βHuge congratulations to all students who have received their recent results at A level, BTEC, GCSE and other courses. I take this opportunity to wish them well for the next stage of their careers, which includes many of them joining us in the sixth form. I would also like to thank the parents/carers for their support of the school which is much appreciated. The results were very pleasing indeed and evidenced the continuous and excellent progress being realised at the school. The Headteacher, Julian Morgan, Senior Leaders, teaching and support staff have given 100% to supporting the students through the examinations and courses, and I also thank them for their professionalism, dedication and commitment. Thank you to all concerned and very well done!β
John Kyrle High School also extended an invitation to current Year 11 students from other institutions, encouraging them to consider joining their Year 12. Interested students can reach out via [email protected].

π§π¦ IET Faraday Workshop π¦π§
Recently, some exceptional Year 8 STEM students participated in the Faraday Challenge, designing solutions to improve road safety. π΄ββοΈπ
Ziva Davies and Florence Picken shared: "We created a prototype to solve a road problem, with roles like Manager and Accountant. Team 2 won with a pressure plate mechanism to keep cars off cycle lanes. It was fun, and we embraced our inner engineers!"
The challenge split students into four groups, each managing a budget of 120 Faradays to create their prototypes. One team designed a pressure pad to activate a red LED light for cyclist safety.
Thanks to Ross Hunter, Table Academy, and Ms. Wacey for making this event a success! It was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore engineering and have fun. π οΈπ

Whilst we all enjoy the summer weather, we recognise that many students find the rising temperatures uncomfortable during the school day.
1. For tomorrow (Friday 19th July), students can wear their PE kits, including trainers. Please note leggings are not currently part of the PE kit.
2. Please bring plenty of fluid for the day. We have water fountains in school to refill if necessary.
3. Wear Sunscreen
4. Have a hat to wear for social times
Many Thanks
JKHS
π£ββοΈπββοΈ **Croft Farm Water Park Adventure** πββοΈπ£ββοΈ
Last Friday, we earned a trip to Croft Farm Water Park for our hard work in lessons! We had a blast trying raft building, pedalos, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Splashing each other and the teachers was so much fun! π¦π
We built rafts using barrels and rope, with some sinking and everyone ending up in the water! Lunch at the cafΓ© warmed us up before more kayaking and paddleboarding. Kayak races and games were super competitive, and paddleboarding had us all laughing as we tried to stay on. The instructors were amazing, joining in and making the day extra fun.
Big thanks to our teachers for organizing this unforgettable day! - Emma and Lohla ποΈπ

β¨ Year 10 German Trip Highlights β¨
Our Year 10 German students recently returned from an incredible tour of the Rhineland, exploring Rhine castles, Koblenz, Phantasialand theme park, and visiting our partner school in Betzdorf. We're so proud of their excellent attitudes, whether it was their first trip abroad, sharing their talents, or simply making us laugh.
Here are some of their reflections:
Matthew: "The youth hostel was great with spacious rooms and bathrooms. The food was tasty with a good variety." ποΈπ²
Ollie: "At the Betzdorf school, we were greeted with murals and friendly students eager to practice English. I made many friends using my German skills. The school even had a sand-filled volleyball court. It was a wonderful experience bonding with Die Kinder in Deutschland." π«π
Katrin and Helmut (from our partner school): "Es war schΓΆn, euch zu treffen! π"
Jeana: "We visited a supermarket near our hostel and bought lots of German items. Mr. Regan treated us to ice creams." ππ¦
Milo: "We played football on the Astro, and Mrs. Gunter scored a goal. While we were winning, Germany was losing to Spainβhow ironic." β½π
Ella: "Jacob convinced me to go on all the fast rides at Phantasialand." π’π‘

π¨π **Criminology Update** ππ¨
This term in Criminology, we've had an amazing time learning new skills and gaining knowledge about the personnel and techniques used in criminal investigations. π΅οΈββοΈπ¬
Students got hands-on experience with:
ποΈ Taking fingerprints
𧬠Recognizing DNA patterns
π Using insects to determine the time of death
π Leading an eye-witness interview
We wrapped up a busy year by applying all these skills in small groups to solve mock case files, reading police reports, and piecing evidence together to find the culprit. Great job, everyone! π΅οΈββοΈπ
