Next week, we will be releasing the latest publication by Lilian Surgeson titled "Effective Teaching for Anxious Learners". This book delves into the correlation between anxiety and common issues encountered in the classroom, such as uncooperative behavior, avoidance of work, and a decline in learning. It emphasizes the belief that teachers should provide support rather than attempting to "fix" learners with anxiety and other mental health concerns by implementing effective pedagogical strategies.

Lilian Surgeson is currently employed as a classroom teacher at an online alternative educational institution catering to students who are unable to physically attend school, primarily due to anxiety. In this setting, she teaches students who communicate through text chat, and many of them have thrived outside of the traditional classroom environment. Having gained over seven years of experience working with challenging and vulnerable learners in mainstream schools, Lilian has successfully improved the academic performance of previously disruptive students.

The publication will be available for purchase on February 19th 2024. You can already place your order wherever quality educational books are sold.

Today is the UN's International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The following is taken from the UN's website.

"Given the multiple crises we are facing today, the world is not on track to reach numerous Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets by 2030. Preliminary findings from the forthcoming UN Disability and Development Report 2023 indicate that the world is even more off-track in meeting several SDGs for persons with disabilities.

"Our efforts to rescue the SDGs for, with, and by persons with disabilities, need to be intensified and accelerated, given that persons with disabilities have historically been marginalized and have often been among those left furthest behind.

"A fundamental shift in commitment, solidarity, financing and action is critical. Encouragingly, with the adoption of the Political Declaration of the recent SDG Summit, world leaders have recommitted themselves to achieving sustainable development and shared prosperity for all, by focusing on policies and actions that target the poorest and most vulnerable, including persons with disabilities."

Our author, Richard Keagan-Bull is an advocate for people with disabilities. His book, Don't Put Us Away is a unique account of growing up with intellectual disabilities. Today of all days, it's worth reading his words.
